What’s wrong with them, how am I going to coexist with all of them in one environment? “I can’t do this.” I say getting up from the seat and I start to walk away, I feel so overwhelmed. “Why did I think that I could handle all of this? I just can’t.” I shout, tears of defeat streaming down my face. I am lying to myself to think that I can control three grown men, powerful ones for that matter.

I lean my head back, staring up at the ceiling, exhaustion and frustration crashing over me all at once. I had my chance. And I lost it. Again.

My grip on the sink tightened. Damn it. I touched my forehead, massaging the spot between my brows. I couldn’t recall anything . And now, hearing the sentence again in her voice, it was like something deep in my subconscious snapped awake. But no matter how hard I tried to piece it together, there was no recollection, only fragments. Was I just overthinking it? Anyone could have said those words. A thousand people probably have. Maybe I was trying to find meaning where there wasn’t any. Still, my hand slid down the foggy mirror as I stood straight.

I giggled, wiping the back of my hand across my forehead to clear the sweat. “Wasn’t you that told me to never underestimate you?” He remembered that? “And you told me my arrogance won’t matter when it counts,” I reminded him. “Which I don’t even know what you mean by that.” He shrugged. “You caught me off guard, but that won’t always happen,” he explained. “Don’t let your big head distract you.” “My big head?” I scoffed, folding my arms across my chest. “I can beat you any day any time.”

Finally, something that worked! I pulled a stool over and climbed up. The window was open now but it was small. Really small. Could I fit through it? I had to try. I stuck my head through first, trying to see how far down the ground was. But my head went through and then. I was stuck. My head was outside but my shoulders were too wide. I tried to pull back but I couldn't. I was completely stuck. "Ahh! My head!" I screamed, panicking. "Help! My head is stuck! Somebody help me!"

I’m head over heels and it took me a few months. I wipe a tear that escapes my eyes and focus on cooking. I’m trying to distract myself, but my thoughts aren’t helping. Neither is my playlist. It’s on shuffle and Moral of the Story starts to play. I quickly change it because Nathan isn’t a mistake. He made a mistake, but he’s not one and I’m not going to allow my mind to give in to superstitions.

All that mattered to me was a heir. But something seems as if it could not give me access to what I was suppose to get. I was confused because I have not heard of this problem before, it was very strange and I was getting so tired day by day. I stood up and stood still but nothing happened, it was time for me to contact the wise wolfs and I was slowly losing confidence in anything that I could view in my head.

Zoey points out gently. I groan and put my head back in my hands. “I don’t know, okay? I honestly don’t know. Maybe I was in shock. Maybe I was confused. Maybe I temporarily lost my mind. All I know is that I fucked up big time, and now everything is even more complicated than before.”

I turned and walked to my room, closing the door softly behind me. And the moment I was alone, I collapsed onto my bed, burying my face in my pillow. And I let myself feel it. The confusion. The hurt. The overwhelming, devastating realization that I was in way over my head. “I can’t. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t.” I groaned into the pillow. I can’t do this to myself. I can’t do this with him. And I definitely can’t lose my job because of my stupid mistake.

I blinked, the adrenaline rushing out of me, and I found myself collapsing down on a nearby chair. The cafeteria was almost empty by now, but my head was spinning so fast I was sure I was going to pass out. I made up my mind to ditch the rest of the classes and just go home for now. I was drained. I needed air. I needed my room. I needed to cry. I didn’t know how I was going to survive tomorrow, but I knew two things with sickening certainty: I was in over my head. And surviving Crescent High had just become a million times tougher than anything I could‘ve ever anticipated.
