The words spilled out lightly, like they weighed next to nothing I guess I'd reached my drowning point. The water was over my head and my brother happened to be floating by. I'd have grabbed for anything in that moment, I told myself. The problem was, I knew that wasn't true. My stupid brain was stirring things up and the more I looked at the mixture the more I liked it.

I stared up at them in dismay when I realised my 5'4 self couldn't reach it. ''Oh, my bad.'' I heard him say from behind me and before I could turn, he pressed up against me slightly as he reached above my head to grab the doughnuts. I swallowed. Lord, help me. I think I just creamed my panties.

All these questions where packed full in my head without a response nor the ability to ask them because not only did my tongue abandon me, I was still overwhelmed by shock. This is the part he tells me all this Is nothing but a silly joke. Right? Right????

Oh, my God . I didn't even believe there was a God. How could it be? I'm at a loss for words. Give me strength. How could all this happen to me? Please, bury me alive now. I managed to control the urge to walk over to the bar, grab a bottle, and hit him on the head repeatedly. I knew it was time I did the right thing. It wasn't working. It hadn't been working for so long. I was done trying to make something out of nothing. With a resigned nod, I said, "It's over. Now leave."

He paused a little and shook his head before adding, “All these... it’s too much to take in all at once, sis. I really don't know what to say or even think anymore.” Hearing that, I let out a small, humorless laugh before waving my arms in the air in a helpless gesture as I said. “Welcome to the club, lil bro! But my mind couldn't help but wander. The same noble houses that were present at my union? Their contemptuous actions and sneers flashed through my mind. This was all too sudden. I muttered under my breath, as if saying it out loud made it more solid, more true. I nodded slightly, latching onto the explanation. That was it. I had too much. More than I realized. That always blurred things, made everything feel sharper and more important than it really was. Anyone could slip under that kind of haze. Anyone could misread a situation, push too far, or react too fast. I exhaled, long and slow, and ran a hand through my hair. Yeah. That’s all it was.
