I spin immediately, a low snarl ripping from my chest as I face him again. But I am not alone in this form. He is already shifting too. His body stretches and expands, bones cracking and reforming as his skin darkens, limbs lengthening into something far more monstrous than a wolf. A Lycan stands before me, taller, heavier, broader than anything I have fought tonight. His eyes burn with cruel intelligence as he straightens, towering over me. I do not hesitate. The original Lycans were an evolution of the Werewolf, blessed by the Moon Goddess to be the guardians of the Werewolf species. Lycans were able to shift but walk on two feet instead of four, they were stronger, faster and healed three times faster than a normal werewolf making them better fighters and a more superior version. Just like all the Moon Goddess’s creations, when she created the first Lycans she made mates for them just like anyone else to keep them grounded.

Lycans are also unique creatures of the shifter world, as we are born with two souls. Our human soul, and our lycan soul. The human soul coexists with the lycan soul, which remains dormant until our sixteenth birthday, when we experience our first shift. When we shift, we become true wolves, which makes it easier for lycans to hide our existence from humans.
