West With Giraffes Audiobook Novels & Stories

Selene said. "Yes." "And so would I." "Yes." She drank her coffee, watching Eleanor ask Eli a question about Gerald—something specific, something that made him straighten with the satisfaction of someone whose expertise was being properly consulted. "It worked out," she said. "It did." They sat together in the Saturday light and watched a grandmother learn about a giraffe that used to be a whale and had decided to be something different. The city moved around all of them with its characteristic indifference, and it was enough. It was, Selene thought, exactly enough.

I couldn't understand the words, but I could feel a buzzing flowing from my hand to Elias's and a pull between us. "Nainua ukuta wa ulinzi, mashariki, magharibi, kaskazini na kusini. Ninaunganisha na nguvu zangu na za red wolf." His voice rose with each word, making the wind pick up. I opened my eyes as the candles flared to life in large flames.

And for the first time, he felt complete. --- The Song from the West That night, none of them slept. They lay beneath the Echo Hall’s star-sculpted ceiling, watching as something new traced itself across the sky. Not flame. Not threadlight. A third path. Velan whispered, “What now?” Elarai looked east—toward where the horizon curved and the air carried weight. > “Now,” she said, “we listen.” Mira blinked. “To what?” The boy rose slowly, eyes glowing faint. “There’s a song… rising. From the west.”

He continued toward the bus, climbing the stairs, leaving Ellie to stare after him in surprise. Ellie climbed back on the bus, avoiding Jake's gaze and finding her seat in the last row. She pulled out her chips, opened the bag, and put her headphones back in. Her mood hadn't improved much so she found a new classic audiobook. Ah, yes, there it was, Dickens always had a dreary narrative to fit her mood, a perfect fit following her upsetting realization that she would quite literally never escape the world of wolves. She turned the book on and stared out the window:

Zack was leaning on the window, excitedly looking outside. Through the car window, he saw many animals coming and going beside the car from time to time. There were musk deer, giraffes, and even zebras, and camels arrogantly stuck their huge heads into the car windows, twitching their thick lips, begging for carrots and apples. This was his first time visiting Safari Park. He knew a lot of animals, but either he saw them through encyclopedias or he got to know them through educational TV programs. This was the first time he had seen live animals!

Not far from them was a large waterfall rushing. "Ah! We have arrived!" the pink-haired woman on the giant wolf's back exclaimed cheerfully. They could see a large castle with a vast fortress to the west of the cliff. West Fort Castle, the territory and estate of the Goldlane Family. [Yes. We have arrived,] Miriam heard Heath's voice in her head. The pack of wolves immediately found their way down the cliff and effectively moved so fast. Crossing the detour outside the West Fortress town which was deserted as it was still the middle of the night, they made sure not to wake anyone up.

Chris nodded with interest as I spoke, absorbing every word. Our next destination was the giraffe enclosure. I hoisted Chris onto my shoulders, his small hands clutching my hair. His gasp of wonder made the strain on my neck worthwhile as he stretched out a hand as if he could reach the towering animals. The giraffes, with their elongated necks and gentle eyes, grazed peacefully, oblivious to the awe they inspired in my little boy. Then I noticed a shift in Chris. His usual chatter quieted, replaced by a thoughtful silence. His gaze seemed distant as he stared out at the enclosure, his young mind working overtime as if trying to solve a puzzle.

~ Helen’s POV ~ The zoo was… well, exactly as I expected. Loud, crowded, and honestly not my thing. I didn’t really enjoy it much, but Lisa and Zara? They had the time of their lives. Their eyes sparkled at the sight of every animal, from the tall, graceful giraffes to the cheeky monkeys swinging from branch to branch. They giggled and took endless pictures, even convincing me to pose beside a sleepy lion—which, let me tell you, was not on my list of things to do today.

"W h y... a r e... y o u... s o... l a t e? I... w a i t e d... f o r... y o u... f o r... a... l o n g... t i m e." She heard a voice and looked at the wolf. "What? what you just said? Wait? Did you just speak?" Gia was surprised while the wolf stood up while the chains on her body only made it more difficult for her to stand up. It howled loudly making Gia scared. Gia moved away from it but the wolf looked at it with her crystal clear eyes making her froze. *l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l l*

The brakes of the bus let out an awful shriek as it came to a stop, and I awkwardly shuffled down the too-thin aisle with all my worldly possessions crammed into the bulky suitcase. My ears rang with the melancholic howl of a far away wolf, singing into the night as my boots hit the old gravel that passed for pavement at the bus stop. The sound reverberated in my chest, welcoming me back to the place I spent so much time at growing up, a place where wolf calls and the chirp of peeper frogs were more common sounds than gun shots and police sirens. Moonhollow Village, as small as it was, seemed enormous when it was so late at night and I was all alone.
