The little cat that dared to disobey a direct order, even when I'd repeated it said my name like a fucking prayer. She clung to me now, her eyes wide open as she stared at me. A strained sigh snapped my attention back to the reason why I opened my eyes in the first place. And there he was. “Blink twice if you truly see me, Wildcat.” He murmured, those intentional dark orbs sinking right into my soul, like he was daring me to give him a negative reaction. At first, I just stared, looking back into those eyes like I wanted to figure out every single secret behind his gaze. Then slowly, I blinked. Once, then twice, right before he had the chance to freak out. “Say my name. Let me be sure that wasn't an automatic blink that just happened naturally” he murmured, moving closer now, yet trying to stay as far as possible away from me.

I say and push her aside so I could peer into her eyes. “You do not know how fearful I was when Nikolai told me you were gone. I thought they took you from me,” I admit, remembering the dread I felt when I received that call. Caterina moves her hand to cup my cheek and as I am about to warn her not to, she has that blank stare in her eyes again.
