Those whispers were all the answers the shadow knew. “The news must have leaked.” She whispered. Usually, she would have kept her head lifted, her eyes open, but now, she kept her head down, trying to ignore the whispers that followed her wherever she went. She had no time to listen to rumors. Her gaze was only focused on one set of people, the matrons. And judging by the wide open doors of their chambers, she knew they were waiting. She wanted to go outside for a walk to think. It was around 10:00pm when she started walking outside. I ignored what he said and continued climbing up the stairs. It only took me a couple of seconds before I reached the line of tables in the very middle. The entire library was not in total darkness because of the light slipping through the glass windows from the outside. I ran to the east wing and hid behind the tall shelves while catching up my breath. The werewolf’s footsteps echoed in the air.

Alexis shouted, “how will I know who is coming to help us?” “Keep your eyes on the Shadows.” She whispered as she faded away. “What? Keep my eyes on the Shadows? What the hell does that mean?” She whispered to herself. Mary frowned, “Hhhuummmm...I have no idea. I guess we’ll just hafta to keep a lookout.” Mary shrugged with a smile. “Do you still want to go with me?”

I glanced over my shoulder, but the alley was empty. Keep moving, I told myself. It’s just your imagination. I quickened my pace, my heels clicking against the pavement. The footsteps followed, faint at first but growing louder and heavier. They weren't mine. “Stop.” The voice was low and guttural, almost a growl. I spun around, my heart lurching into my throat. A man stepped out of the shadows, his face obscured by the hood of his jacket. “Stay back,” I warned, trying to keep the fear out of my voice.
