And of course, I never questioned why Canus and Chryseus always referred to the Prince as their father, rather than their Sire. Only, just now, Canus was saying that he grew up with his vampiric name, that he knew himself to be Canus even before he transformed into a vampire. It can only mean the Prince would have named him as a child, back when he was still mortal. Mortal, but not human. The Prince was his father, and not merely his Sire.
‘Dhampir,’ I whisper. I thought they were only legends, that they were against the law of our kind.
