However, the look on his face was that of grim seriousness and desperation. Not at all one of mischief, but I guessed it was part of the act. He wanted me to say something before blowing up with laughter, I was tired of waiting. "Can I laugh?," I enquired although I had no desire to. If he was trying to joke, it was nowhere near funny.
