“Nolene is dead.”
“She’s not,” he says and looks up. His eyes are filled with agony. “I mean…she looks it…they all do, but none of them actually…die all the way. Most of them are asleep, but some of them…sometimes they wake up.”
“What?”
“The wild child mates,” he goes on as if he didn’t hear me. “The last ones...they can leave the catacombs on the full moon, but the rest…they’re trapped down there...I don't know how intelligent they are, how much they understand. I think they're screaming into the void.”
