Saat aku menungging untuk mencuci pakaian, tiba-tiba Ayah Mertuaku mendesakku masuk ke dalam mesin cuci dari belakang. Bokongku yang memikat terpampang dan dipegang oleh tangan seorang pria. Aku tak bisa bergerak sedikit pun. Sebuah tangan besar membelaiku dengan nakal dari belakang. Tubuhku memanas tak terkendali dan kenikmatan itu membuat kakiku gemetar. Aku pun menoleh dan ternyata orang itu adalah Ayah Mertuaku...

Aku iri pada ibu, dia cantik seperti sekuntum bunga, disukai oleh semua pria di desa. Dia hanya perlu berbaring di ranjang setiap hari tanpa perlu bekerja, hidup dengan nyaman dan terawat. Sementara aku yang lahir darinya, justru berkulit gelap dan kurus, harus bekerja tanpa henti mengurus ladang dan pekerjaan rumah. Anak-anak desa pun sering menggangguku. Mereka bilang aku pembawa sial dan kelak pasti akan dinikahkan dengan dewa gunung, lalu mati tragis di kuilnya. Sebelum hari pernikahan tiba, aku diam-diam menukar posisi dengan ibu.

Kaisar jarang mengunjungi harem belakangan ini. Namun, akhir-akhir ini para selir selalu terlihat berseri-seri. Aku merasa bingung melihat hal ini. Sampai suatu saat, aku melihat seorang makhluk aneh dengan ekor seperti binatang muncul di hadapanku. Barulah aku menyadari, makhluk yang seperti manusia tapi bukan manusia ini, membuat para wanita di harem menantikan datangnya malam dengan penuh harap.

Kakak kembarku ditunjuk menjadi ibu susuan Pangeran Adipati Halinka, tapi dia pergi kawin lari dengan kekasihnya. "Doctor, have you finished the examination? I can't hold on any longer," I say as I lie on the examination table in the college clinic. A screen completely blocks my view. The examination instrument pokes a few inches deeper into me. I try my best to suppress it, but a whimper escapes me. "No!" The doctor remains silent and merely adjusts the machine so that my legs are lifted higher.
