Just then, a whistle rang out, and the beasts ground shaking foot falls stopped. I looked over my shoulder. And there was Marcus, his eyes wide, but sword ready.
“Hey you, you leave her alone!” Marcus yelled, and the being wailed this howl-like cry that was unlike anything I’d ever heard, sending me right to my knees and causing me to get dizzy. I looked over to Marcus, and he was off kilter as well, as if the scream itself was some sort of weapon, taking us off our feet. Its teeth dripping with thick, bloody drool.
