The skies were clear, the stars were shining brightly. I blinked and I thought I saw a star flash through the skies. They said that if you see a shooting star, you should make a wish. I already knew that wishes come true but I could not ask for more at this moment. When I closed my eyes, all I thought was, Please make this last forever.

Mia's POV People have believed in the legend that wishing upon a shooting star makes the wish come true for a long time. I never believed in such myths, I never believed in any myths at all. I never even wished upon a shooting star, I just said a few words in my heart. I only said the wishing words in my heart, I never said it out loud and I never wished on a shooting star. She kept her tone light, but her gut was doing flips. Christina didn’t answer right away. Instead, she pulled a small object from the folds of her blanket and set it on the table with the kind of care usually reserved for live grenades. It was a book, small and battered, the kind of thing that might get lost in a flea market bargain bin—if you didn’t look too closely at the cover. Leila leaned in. The leather was cracked, the pages yellowed like they’d been left out in the sun for a century too long. Stamped into the cover was a symbol: an eye inside a triangle, surrounded by curling, intricate lines that almost seemed alive.

I lifted my chin and brushed my lips against the corner of his, blatantly revealing how inexperienced I was at this yet hoping that my bold move would put his mind to rest. He pulled me closer to him in his arms, wrapping me in a warmth which seemed to radiate from within my own body. We returned to watching the skies in silence, taking comfort in each other’s presence. “Look! A shooting star.” he pointed up at the light which shot across the night. “Close your eyes and make a wish.” I closed my eyes and racked my brain for something to wish for, my heart beating loudly in my chest as I made my wish. “What did you wish for?” I asked him, still staring into the sky.

We watch as Miss Baker turns around and walks to her desk. “So – so what are we looking for?” I question him. He has to tell me now so that I could help him look for it. “Okay so the myth we are looking for is most often called The moonlight wish” he says , already digging into shelves. “The moonlight wish?” I say to myself softly while placing my bag on the ground so I can start looking through the shelves content too. “Yeah , I will explain it to in greater detail when we find something about it – mainly it’s back story” he looks to me with a serious face. I am actually quite excited to learn about it , he is keeping me in suspense and it is stirring up my curiosity.

The flower she had gifted me earlier. “You didn’t throw it away,” she says. I glance at the flower in her tiny hand. “Do you know what it is?” she asks, carefully brushing the petals with her thumb. “It’s a wish flower. Each petal has a wish in it.” I frown. This is child’s play. There is no such thing as –- holy shit. Right before my eyes, the petals begin to glow. Faintly at first, then stronger. A soft, golden shimmer begins to envelope each petal and lights up the room.

“I think so.When I was little I saw one.And I wished for a little bird.Then the next day,my grandad got me a baby pigeon” He lets out a surprised laugh—his grin widening as he turns to face me more fully. “A pigeon? Damn. She rested her head against his shoulder. For a few seconds, they simply stood there. Together. Alive. Then Nova moved. Hope looked down. Her daughter was awake. Nova’s golden eyes moved slowly across the stars. Hope smiled. “Look.” She lifted her slightly. “All those stars…” Nova stared at them. Hope whispered: “They’re possibilities.” Nova reached toward the nearest one. A tiny golden light moved toward her hand. It floated above her fingers. Hope’s eyes widened. “Nova…” The little girl smiled. The star disappeared into her palm.
