Chapter 20 – The Breaking Point Light and shadow convulsed, tearing the clearing apart. Aria’s body shook with the force of her own power, every nerve aflame, every heartbeat pounding like a drum of war. Her vision blurred at the edges, gold fire swimming before her eyes as if the world itself was burning. She had never burned so brightly, never felt so close to unraveling. The air was molten, heavy with the scent of scorched leaves, and each breath dragged heat and ash into her lungs until she thought she might choke on her own fury.

The darkness swirled around them like a never-ending fog, the howl of distant wolves now seemed deafening to Jake. His heart boomed in his ears making it impossible to hear the musical laughter of Glory. She was circling around him the same way that a wolf circles a sheep right before taking out a large bite of flesh. Her eyes were flashing crimson as Jake watched helplessly as her fingers morphed into claws dazzling black fingernails growing to be a foot long each. They were meant for the rending and ripping of flesh.

My stare fixed on the dual dark voids of his gaze, seeking his response to Aliya's silent challenges. Then, in a fraction of a second, the darkness vanished. It wasn't a fade or shift. It was a fierce change. The centers, the colors, the endless black, all swapped for a sudden, fierce flood of pure, searing white glow. It matched overheated steel, a light so total it stung to see, yet it carried no heat. It was a fearful peek at the immense, bare force inside him. It showed the effort, the short, heavy display of his actual might when he pushed.

She had run away with Gladdy. His beast growled. His eyes glowed a bright orange as his irises dilated into dark slits. Steam rose from his back. He breathed deeply, clouds of smoke puffing from his flaring nostrils and from the corners of his lips. Cracks ran down from the blades of his back, making him groan. Energy coursed throughout his body, burning him from the inside. More shards formed right outside the window. Niquel smirked.

The words spilled out of my mouth as I recovered from the initial shock. "Yes," he responded straightforwardly. As his words sank in, a bead of sweat formed on my forehead. The room was filled with piercing stares, oozing with animosity. People were looking at us with such hostility, their eyes sending a clear message of disapproval. It was as if their collective judgment had magnified, engulfing the entire space. The weight of their glares bore down on me, intensifying the discomfort I already felt. Every gaze in the room seemed fixated on us, amplifying the unease and making me long for an escape from this glaring spotlight.

She sigh, said in a low yet excited tone, “I see you become the army of yourself... As a token for the old times, utilize the blade once again and remember thy moment!” The blade flow so fast that no one ever notice as it pierce through the heart of the withering tree. Ignoring me she continued with her struggle while groaning and gasping in between due to ache. “Do you really think, you will get anything by doing all this?” She questioned gritting at me with her canines appearing visible to me. Her once radiant face with powers and glaze, was now smeared with dried tears that left trails of sorrow etched upon her delicate skin.
