I disabled their silver restraints and drew the rogues out through the ravine.” I picture it, Melody alone in the dark, half sick, poisoned, still outsmarting men trained to kill wolves. The image makes my stomach twist with awe and horror. “You saved them,” I breathe. “Yes,” she says, then adds, quieter, “and they saved me, too.”

I step up onto the trailer, pouncing off of it and landing squarely on top of the other wolf, ramming my sword down through the base of its skull. “NOOOO!” an ear-shattering scream comes from behind me and I spin to see a wolf fighting for its life under a much larger rogue that tears at it going for its throat. Robin sprints and jumps in between them, landing herself over the bottom wolf's throat with her body. The wolf above her bites into her side as she releases an agonizing scream. My body moves before I even have a moment to comprehend I am moving.

The minute I heard Robyn’s voice hitch and choke, I knew that this was a bad idea and this was much too soon for either of them to be together with each other. Robyn wasn’t ready to face the harsh reality that her mother’s wolf’s eyes gave away - she had mated with a beta.
