She raised her head and put her forehead on his, kissing his nose as tears fell down her icy cheeks. “Evan,” she whispered, “I love you. Please, hear me. I love you. Please, promise... don’t hurt me. I love you. Don’t hurt me,” she repeated, still crying as she pressed her face into the coarse fur of the beast.
The wolf calmed and his eyes lightened, becoming soft, round, and caring.
She kissed the top of his snout again. “I love you, Evan,” she whispered.
