My company was going to receive an award! "When I first saw it, I thought it was one of these chaebols looking to curry favor but after reading it,...." Ezekiel couldn't complete his sentence due to excitement. I reread the email just in case I had misread any line but it was all true. I was going to be awarded the 'Design of the Year Award'. It was awarded by the Design Museum in London and it recognized design projects from all industries. "It's awesome." I stood up and rushed to Juss's room, knocking urgently on her door.

"Nina, I've told you before—I’m the one in control." So that was it. He wanted to publicly turn my work into Wendy's and cement my 'incompetence' before everyone. Onstage, the lights came up. The host announced enthusiastically, "Next, we present this year's most anticipated award—the Best Emerging Architect Award! The winning project is: The Summit Project! The winner is Wendy Lowe from the Lister Group!" Thunderous applause erupted. Wendy lifted her skirt and walked onto the stage like a proud peacock.

It was just the two of them, separated by twenty yards of air and a million miles of broken promises. Lucy stepped down from the stage, her legs feeling heavy. Best Newcomer, mostly meant to promote the host company’s new talent. Other companies barely paid attention. Finally, it was time for Best Actor Award. Lucas looked confident. The next moment, his name was announced exactly as expected. “Best Actor, Lucas Lansworth.” He went onstage and delivered his acceptance speech. Toward the end, he suddenly looked in Mia’s direction.

But by the time the couple arrived, the organizers were stacking up the metal crowd barriers and cleaning up the red carpet. Regina and Owen sauntered, hand in hand, to the event with smiles plastered on their faces. The couple did not care that they were late because being in the limelight was not their cup of tea. The ushers hurriedly escorted them to their seats just as the lights dimmed and the awards ceremony began. The organizers showed a presentation about the awards handed out by the mayor every year to outstanding individuals in the community. “I don't understand…?” She adjusted her gown, pushing it just below her knee. “Do you watch the writers win awards that you know fully well that you could have won so effortlessly?” She clarified, pinching the bridge of her nose. He shrugged, raising the award with a smile. “Yeah, but I think I really need to win one next year since most top-notch writers are looking at me with the eye of a newbie, so I need to show them, isn't that right?” Elysia nodded, rising to her feet after handling the second award to Calvin.

CHAPTER 300 One week later, the awards hall that evening was filled with the glow of crystal lights. Guests were dressed in formal attire, the sound of conversation blending with soft music. Olivia sat in the front row with Elena and Nathan. Her face looked calm, though her hands were slightly cold with nervousness. “Relax, Liv,” Elena whispered while holding her hand. “Whatever the result, Mommy is proud.” “I know, Mom,” Olivia replied with a small smile. The host stepped onto the stage. “The Best Architectural Design Award of the Year goes to—Olivia Lancaster.”

Nina said as I turned to her. “Why?” I asked her. I couldn't see Victor pursuing an award so badly unless it meant something else. I don't think it was worth it. I mean he had received almost all awards meant for actors except for this. “There’s a mist surrounding the awards. It says, it grants the receiver’s wish or something” I laughed before turning to stare at the award which was placed in a glass. It was a gold ball surrendered by stars in diamond. It was beautiful. I turned to see both Nina and Skylar looking at me with a serious expression on their faces “Wait! For real?” I asked in shock.

So I asked a question I'd been thinking about. "What's the event for?" He turned to look at me, taking his time before he spoke."A bunch of people are being awarded tonight. It's an award only the top donors of the organization can get." "Ohh," I nodded my understanding at him. "So this is basically just…" "A show put on to thank those donors for their magnanimous hearts." He grinned sarcastically. I looked up as a man and two women joined us at the table, each of them acknowledging Nathan with a greeting. It was just the man who spared me a glance though.

“I’ll add that to my list.” Nathaniel and Gregory returned, both in high spirits. I handed Nathaniel his champagne and he murmured a quick thank youn before taking a sip. Conversation flowed easily at our table, more champagne was ordered and we only shut our mouths when the host announced that the awards were about to be presented. We went through a lot of categories; Promising Company of the Year, Promising CEO/ Entrepreneur of the year, Best Local Entrepreneur, Best Customer Service. The list went on.
