I looked up and saw Xander's eyes glistening with tears as he stared at me. He looked very sad, and I noticed that the circles under his eyes were dark and his cheeks were a little thinner than usual. Unconsciously, I raised my hand and stroked under his eye. A single tear fell as I touched it, followed by another, and another, until he finally sobbed.

SELENA POV My eyes found Vanessa immediately. She stood a few feet from the bed, exhaustion evident on her face, yet that familiar gentleness still sat in her expression. Then my gaze shifted to Xander. He looked terrible. His beard had grown out, his eyes were bloodshot, his shirt wrinkled, and for the first time since a long while, Alexander Blackwood looked human. Relieved and terrified and happy all at once. His hand tightened around mine like he was afraid I would disappear again.

The only movement he makes is to move a blue streak of hair out of his face. “Thank you for the report, Rick. I will notify him of my return right away” Xander says with a sigh. The guy leaves with inhuman speed and I turn back to face Xander. The expression on his face is almost filled with sadness as he looks at me. I know the look well now that that moment has been broken.

Living, undeniable proof of her statement walked through the door. Xander Hale. He didn't just walk. He strode in with the kind of confidence that made it impossible not to look. He didn't bother glancing at the teacher, the chattering students, or anyone else in the room. No, Xander freaking Hale acted like the entire world existed on his terms. And maybe it did.

He was so powerful that he could cause an earthquake with just a stamp of his foot. On the other hand, a big shot like Xander was actually beaten to death by Zayn in the meantime. Most importantly, Zayn was someone who had recently emerged over the past six months. Most people did not know him in the past.

But don't worry we'll be your friends from now on. Xander spoke in a sweet voice as he extended his right hand forward. Evelyn looked at him nervously. He then took her hands and did a handshake. Xander: I am Xander Knights. Brandon jerked his hands away and shook hands with her. Brandon: Myself Brandon Tate. But you call me Bear. He spoke as he flashed her his beautiful box smile and made a cute face. Xander look at him with a disgusted face. Xander: Don't do that, you look terrible.

Something isn’t right. “You were last seen together. When did she leave you?” I relate everything that happened up until the point that I started feeling my chest constrict. I don’t go into full details on that but I notice his hold grew tighter when he figured what happened after. Without letting myself think about it, I place my hand over one of his and feel as he relaxes against me, his hold loosens and he goes back to drawing mindless patterns around my hips. “Maybe she went out, she was talking about going shopping.” Xander shakes his head. His face is passive for all but there is a hollow look in his eyes. That makes my heart ache.

Someone in the Xander family was working with Fabian Kane. Could it be Steve?
