Xavier’s voice was tender as he tucked some of my hair behind my ear. I took a moment. Was I okay? The answer was an easy no. But I couldn’t tell him all the reasons why. The main reason I couldn’t share was being wolfless. “Um…I’m still processing. I’m still trying to figure out what that witch's riddle meant and also why would someone want to kill me?” “Come here,” Xavier instructed as he lay on his back. Listening, I rested my head on his chest as he lazily drew circles on my back with his finger.

Xavier’s voice was no longer a rumble; it was a low, terrifying rasp that promised violence. Xavier, it isn’t what it looks like, I began, but he wasn't listening. He grabbed the book, his thumb brushing over the old leather with a grip so tight I thought he might snap the binding. He looked at the book as if it were a weapon used to strike him. He is digging into your past, Lara. He is finding the pieces of you that I was forced to hide, and he is handing them back to you like a savior. He’s trying to buy the space in your heart that I’m struggling to keep.

In the recipes his daughter memorized. In a book she’d open every day without ever knowing what was inside. Brilliant, really. Cruel, but brilliant."

The men us dressed as beggars – it looks as if they were wrestling in the sand as they are covered in it. Our mission now , was to walk through the village to a isolated area - Xavier’s waterfall. The night before he had taken four horses – cherry and rider were definitely one of those four – and hid them by the waterfall. Xavier grabs me by the shoulders and makes me look deep into his eyes while he instructed me very carefully. “Rosemary…I need you to follow my every instruction okay…I need you to walk with Britney to the gates – the guard there is an ally , he will let you pass…” he tells me , something about his instruction makes me question him.

Christiano pointed out "Even his dimples." I went red. "Geez, I was bored." I blushed "You were reading my books too." Xavier picked up the top book from the pile I had read on the table "Werewolves, romance, fantasy....have you read all of these?" I nodded. Xavier shook his head. "Bookworm." he teased me "Am not." I frowned at him folding my hands "Yes you are spitfire." he leaned on the table and folded his arms too "No I'm....spitfire?"

I checked where the height of Xavier might reach and I found a book which was slightly out of order compared to the rest. My thought was to return the book to where it was but then the cover caught my attention. It is actually one of my paper book comics. With shaky hands, I picked it up and found two more letters inside. This is actually one of my best-selling comic books and yet, it was actually lying in here. Liam bought my book and read it. Then could it be that the letters are for me? I walked back and sat on the bed. "Mum, are you okay?" Xavier asked in his tiny little voice.

She sat up straight and bore holes at her house master. Xavier, without even looking, turned a page leisurely. "Sweetheart, if you keep staring at me like that, I might start blushing." Miriam didn't take the bait. "Why the fuck do you need an antidote for ricin?" Xavier didn't lift his head. Instead, he let out a low chuckle, the kind that was more amused than surprised. "Miriam, Miriam, Miriam..." He finally folded the magazine and set it down on his lap, tapping his fingers against the glossy cover.

Plopping down next to him I leaned back, and he slung his arm around the back of the couch, his hand resting easily on my shoulder. “Now that we are all here” Alpha Alex said, eyes scanning the room, “Xavier, our librarian can tell us what is going on.” He nodded to the older man as he gestured him to sit in his chair, Xavier shuffled slowly and sank into Alex’s oversized chair. His cloudy eyes looked at each one of us in turn, seeming to see through us, into us. “I had thought it a myth, something I read once in an old book; but now I find it happening in front of my eyes.” He set a barely held together book on the table, the binding frayed and in danger of falling apart at any moment.

Once he saw her eyes, he had gotten his answer. “You read it.” Matthew calmly stated. Jess broke eye contact again. Looking at anything that isn’t him. He let go of her chin and turned to his brothers. “She read the book.” He stated again. Jess simple looked down, since she knew if she looked up all of them would be staring at her and she didn’t want to give away more than she already did. “All give you one chance to answer this.” Xavier spoke again. “What stood in the book, what do you know?” Xavier asked. They needed to know what that book said about human mates. They needed to know, what she knew. Jess simply get her head down. Xavier grabbed the bed frame and shook it as he yelled.

Was he going to still punish her? “Xander.” Stacie’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. “You had the audacity to steal. Not just from anyone from Stacie.” Olivia didn't know how she was going to tell this story but she had to defend herself. “No, I didn’t steal anything. I swear. I mistakenly walked to the second floor but I didn't take anything. I didn’t even enter a room.” Xander didn’t say anything. He couldn’t concentrate on what was going on because of what he had just found out. There was no way in hell he was going to punish her. He knew how Stacie could be so he didn't even believe her side of the story.
