That was when I saw it. An opening. Covered in vines and tucked between two thick walls of climbing roses, it looked like something out of a fairytale. I pushed through, breath catching in my throat. A small, hidden garden opened before me. Flowers bloomed in quiet colors, a small stone bench sat near a shallow pond. It was peaceful… almost magical. And in the center stood Xavier. Black shirt, sleeves rolled up, hands in his pockets, jaw tight. My breath hitched. "No greetings?" I asked, arms folded. "You just tell me to come and expect me to—"

Not the ugly, scarred, cracked-open pieces that had to survive long before Brandon ever happened. He knows the aftermath. The bruises and the blood. The hospital photos, the scars I couldn’t hide. But that’s just a chapter. There’s a whole damn book before that, and most of it doesn’t have happy endings. Xavier doesn’t know the things I’ve done. The people I’ve tricked. The way I’ve used my body just to stay warm, just to eat, just to make it through the night. He doesn’t know how survival can twist a person into something unrecognizable—and how easy it is to become numb when no one is watching.

He was sweet and thoughtful and even when he was really mad at me, he could still write a note and throw it into my box of gifts. Giddy with a smile, I looked up at the ceiling and sighed. "Feels really beautiful to be careful for," The smallest box came next and when I tore it open, it revealed a small red saude box. I raised my brow in curiosity, hoping it wasn't a wedding ring or something because I was nowhere near ready for marriage.

One more inch “Put that down.” I froze. Spun around. Xavier was at my bedroom window. Climbing in. Like a psychopath. “How did you?!” He grabbed the paper. Blew out the candle. Shoved me back. “You want to ruin your life?” he snapped. “Fine. But leave me out of it.” “You can’t just barge in here!” I shouted, pushing him. He didn’t budge. Then he grabbed my sketchbook, my one treasure and ripped it in half.

I used a small bit of magic to summon one of my books, my mates hissing at me as it caused my Heat to flare and I groaned, grabbing my stomach as it crackled painfully. Xavier's eyes flashed with anger, "Tiny." I leaned against Theo, settling my breathing and opened the book. "It was in my altar room. You know you can't go in there." Gabriel cleared his throat. "Ouch, darling. I'm right here." I gave him a scowl. "Shut up." He smirked but let me read for a few moments. "What is that book?" Xavier asked, ducking to try and see the nameless cover.

I spotted a few prestigious business awards, several academic accolades, and even a humanitarian recognition. The big bad mafia lord was a nerd in disguise, a genius even. I was impressed, so much so that I strolled over to the bookshelf, scanning the titles. Philosophy, economics, psychology... Xavier's reading list was eclectic and intimidating. I pulled out a worn leather-bound book, "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. He had read this multiple times. I sank into Xavier's high-backed chair, feeling a little too comfortable. My legs crossed on the desk in front of me. I ran my fingers over the cool wood.

The magi who had surrounded Evelyn left one by one, as if deliberately avoiding this cold-talking knight, and in the end Evelyn and Xavier were the only two people left in the large reading room. When it finally cleared up around them, Evelyn had time to continue writing in the book in her hand, "New Edition of Temple-specific First-Level Light Spells General Knowledge Tutorial. "You're going to be obnoxious," she muttered as she took notes. "Oh, so what am I supposed to do?" Xavier looked at her nonchalantly, "Giggle like you do and then try desperately to answer the idiots?" Evelyn was so used to being mocked by him that instead of looking halfhearted and nervous, she was quite calm and co

Xavier looks at the door and looks back at Cole. "He's...he's going...to...h...hurt us Cole, especially me." Xavier says shutting his eyes. Seeing Xavier like this hurt Cole. It hurt more than the pain in his body right now. "What's important to you?" Cole asks sternly. Xavier was caught by surprise and looked at Cole quizzically. "In this room, what is important to you?" Cole repeats. Xavier looks around his room. His eyes get caught on his poetry book. "My book." He softly says, smiling.

That hot headed evil girl must be really rubbing on me. "Xavier....are you there,open the door. Anyone." Bennet bangs on the door. They say revenge is sweet,but I feel more than that. I feel good. (Hehehehe....I just couldn't stop myself from adding an Evil Xavier part. If really feels good. The book is almost coming to an end,almost , we still have some more things to clear out. Xavier walked to the desk and opened the book. He didn't look at it; he knew every page by heart. "Everyone has a price. Your father’s was a mountain. Arthur Sterling’s was a secret family. Ava’s was her life." ​He looked at me then, his expression unreadable. "You wanted to see the lock on the cage? Here it is. Information. Every person I 'own' is in this room. Every move they make is recorded here."
