She gave his arm one last, lingering squeeze before nodding and slipping out of the hall. The scent of lilies lingered behind her like rot.
As the doors closed, Rhys turned back to me. The softness was gone, replaced by a cold, mocking sneer. "You should take notes, Elara. Maybe if you knew how to be a real woman instead of a walking blade, people wouldn't be so eager to see you leave a room."
I felt the heat rise to my face, my Alpha blood boiling. "A 'real' woman? You mean a leech who feeds on your guilt to keep herself relevant? If that’s what you want in your bed, Rhys, you’re even more of a fool than I thought."
