I am seated in the most secluded part of the café. I continued reading some of my notes. “Do you know Mr. King’s daughter is the fiancée of Mr. Alexander Knight?” Another woman strikes a conversation with her friend, a little bit from where I was but I heard my father’s name that’s why my ears instantly hooked in their conversation. I couldn’t hear her words after saying my father’s name because the barista was calling someone’s name for their coffee. “Really?” Her exaggerated reaction made some people threw a glance at their table. It was so fucked up because after that, they started whispering at each other. I couldn’t hear it anymore!

“Y— You shouldn't have read it. I don't have to answer you.” I remained stern, not wanting to break. The way he's looking at me was enough for me to fall to my knees and go everything he asks me too. He smirked, tucking his hands in his pants. “You played with fire and now you're afraid of getting burned?” What's with his pun intended statements? He should've never come across that book. “You can think whatever you want of me, but they're just poems, don't think you're special, Mr Knight.”

I was already losing hope of seeing him and was ready to go when I saw him cackling with one of the twins. “I didn’t know when he became a comedian.” I said underneath my breath and marched towards them. “What was so funny?” "Oh, Ruby,” Madison exclaimed as she saw me, oblivious to the death gaze we were giving ourselves. “This is Mr. Knight, the owner of Knight Holding.” “Oh yes, I am aware. We go way back.” “I see.” Madison said without any hint of suspicion, but Alex was focused on something else, and his eyes zoned on our jointed hands, and I smiled.

Eight months of waiting for him to be proud of me, to want to show me off, to see me as something more than ordinary. I push open the door. The room goes quiet. Heads turn. I clock Ryan immediately, standing near the bar with a drink in his hand, his face going pale. Next to him, a man in a charcoal suit. Tall. Dark hair. Sharp features carved from granite. His eyes meet mine. Knight. I don’t look away from Ryan. “Hi.” My voice comes out steady. “Sorry to interrupt.” “Zara.” Ryan sets his glass down too quickly. It clatters. “What are you doing here?”

Kyhe showing up at Nearce home looking for her, what could possibly go wrong! “Yes, I'm upset and I will stay that way... Mr. Knight it is not of your concerns, do not show up at my house or else I will call the police. I'm nothing more than your Secretary continue to treat me as such, your Secretary is sleepy. Have a good night.”

Closing my eyes for a mere second, I swallow hard and then start to breathe again when his hand leaves my back. As I sit there silently, I hear whispers around me and then glance over at Mr. Knight. He doesn’t seem to notice that everyone is whispering things about him that I wish I could hear but can’t. Instead, he smiles and licks his lips before saying, “Sugar, you look so beautiful tonight. If you wouldn’t have been so hungry tonight, I would have dined on you all night long.” His voice thick with seduction, trails off as he plants the seed of desire in my head.

He looked up and saw me sitting at my desk. He stopped moving. His face went pale, then a deep, angry red. He walked straight toward me. His heavy boots clicked against the marble floor. "My office," he said. His voice was a low growl. "Now." I stood up and reached for my tablet and the white envelope in my bag. “I have the updates for the Paris trip ready, Mr. Knight.” I followed him into his office. He slammed the door so hard the glass vibrated. He turned on me, his eyes blazing.

His thumb brushes under my eye, wiping away a tear I hadn’t felt fall. “Whatever they planned,” he continues, “they underestimated one thing.” “What?” His lips curve into a dangerous, beautiful smile. “You came back with a conscience. I stayed with a war chest.” A knock interrupts us. Hard. Urgent. Before either of us can respond, the door opens—and his head of security steps in, face pale. “Mr. Knight,” he says, voice tight. “They’ve taken someone.” My blood runs cold. “Who?” Alexander demands.
