ALPHA REJECTION
Pain explodes through my back, and I drop to the ground, gasping for air.
“Do you see now?” Eleanor’s voice is closer, taunting. “This is the end for you, for all of you. You should have stayed in the shadows where you belong.”
I force myself to my feet, every muscle protesting. My blade is still in my hand, and I grip it tightly, refusing to let go.
“Funny,” I say, my voice ragged but defiant. “I was just about to say the same to you.”
She smirks, her hand glowing with that same unnatural power. “You’re brave. I’ll give you that. But bravery won’t save you either.”
