The night before our baby's first-month celebration, Lionel came home and told me that the old rumors had started spreading again. This time, they even dragged our baby into it. Apparently, Tracy and Jamie had gotten drunk at a bar and told everyone that the timing of my pregnancy matched perfectly with when Jamie and I were together. They even claimed they had seen my baby and compared him to Jamie's childhood photos, saying the two looked exactly the same. I stopped Lionel from reacting and told him to stay calm. We just watched quietly as the gossip grew online.

Not anyone. Only me.

Damon smirked, "I'm the only exception. You... will fall for a casanova, Olivia." I scoffed, "You wish."

"And what, a call was too much?" "I had work to do. And I figured he'd tell you. Which he did. And now you know so..." "So? It's not about knowing, it's about who I heard it from." "I was busy." He shrugged. "I only told one person." "Defend yourselves. I'm going. But I'm very disappointed in both of you." She left the pair still standing by an open door. "Did you really only tell just the two of us?" "Yes." Nick chuckled. "I'll be going on a business trip soon. When is you're next appointment with the doctor?"

I need something to awe her and that says I love you so much that you are the only woman in the world. While wracking my brain, Beta Jody walks in and hands me a cup of coffee. “You look like you need it, this morning. How are things going with Ms. Arabella as of late?” She frowns as she says it, because she knows that there is something going on and I won’t say. I shake my head and then state, “Nothing that is of any concern, I just can’t think of the perfect present. I need something that says, I can only love you and no one else.”

I already know I’m going. I’m just not going to tell anyone.

I opened it at the kitchen table with my tea and read it and then I just sat there. *I've told other people pieces of it. The broad version. The version that sounds like self-awareness without actually costing anything to say.* *I've never told anyone the actual version. The seventeen. The decision. The only thing I know for sure? This story is nowhere near over.

“Please don’t ask me to do this.” She reached out and put her hand over mine. “You are the only one who can,” she said.

Hurt both of us. I knew she’d find the letter by now. I could picture it—her fingers unfolding the paper, her eyes scanning every word, trying to make sense of what I’d written. I had poured out just enough emotion to keep from overwhelming her. I’d told her I needed space to figure things out. That she was special. That she wasn’t alone. That I cared. But I hadn’t told her everything. I hadn’t told her the truth. Because how do you explain that you’re a wolf shifter destined to love one woman for the rest of your life?
