Kael walked toward us slowly then, moonlight spilling across his face while warmth softened his usually guarded expression. “That is because he worships you.” The creature immediately growled at Kael. I laughed softly. “He has a name, you know.” Kael raised an eyebrow. “You change it every century.” The memory blurred briefly before sharpening again. I pressed my forehead gently against the creature’s massive face. “No,” I whispered softly in the memory. “This one will stay.” Emotion surged violently through the bond between us in the present. The creature remembered too. My breath caught painfully. Because suddenly I realized the truth.
