He looked straight at me, letting me see everything he was feeling, the grief, the longing and the pain in his expression.
“If we had met earlier, like really met, would things have been different?” he asked.
I stared at him. “Maybe...” All of our almosts, our missed chances. Our what if’s. “Yes.” I whispered finally. “I think everything would have been different. But everything would have been different too. If we’d met sooner, I’m not sure we’d be meeting as who we are now...” I remind him.
