She pushed the hem of her shirt back down. The jagged line of pale scars had looked odd on her tanned skin. “That’s a nasty scar,” I frowned. She just shrugged, “I think he still feels guilty about it, and that’s why he lets me get away with so much. How about you? Any scars?” she looked at where my hair fell over my neck and shoulders. “I don’t think so,” I shrugged, “I can’t remember ever having a cut bad enough to leave one.” “Super healing,” she nodded, “Dmitri’s the same way.”

He rubbed it and instead of feeling the soft, delicate, and plump feeling he always felt before, his thumb felt a whole different texture. I smile again and thread my hand into his hair. His scalp is…textured. Pebbly, almost. I run my finger over the skin, trying to make sense of it. A nasty bout of acne? Eczema? My thumb catches the edge of a fine, straight line. They’re scars. His whole head is covered in scars. He had cuts on his back that I could see, and his hair was disheveled. He has lost a lot of weight in a matter of a few days. My heart ached as soon as our eyes met because of how frail he appeared. His cheeks were hollow and his eyes had bags under them. His nose looked broken and his cracked lips were bleeding from the corners. My anger reached an all-time high, and I twisted my arm, freeing and punching Scar in his face.
