I burst into tears again. "It was months before I met you. Rex and I were sure we didn't deserve a second chance mate. Mates are usually considered a blessing, and there was no way I was going to get blessed twice. Zoey didn't have any strings attached, and Rex was attracted to her pure white wolf. It is over for good." "And Tiana? Is she the pack slut you were talking about?" "No. She's Finn's sister... well, I may have slept with her a few times."

This is exactly what I didn't want. Attention. There is no way a human in the spotlight will survive here. Even humans themselves would help to kill them. What was that ridiculous man thinking?! I don't even know him for mother's sake. "Ooo so many she wolves wanna kill you" Zara says clapping her hands. "Just think about it. It's gonna be so exciting being his mate. Will you accept?" Was she crazy?! I'm human. It will NEVER work. "No. I've barely said two words to him. It must be a mistake"

Zach said. More howls and applause. Zach gripped my hand, holding it firm, I was his and he wanted everyone to know it. I’d heard tall tales as a child about Alphas having sex with a pack member or their mate if they had one during their swearing in ceremony … in front of the pack and I cringed. Surely Zander might be barbaric enough to suggest something like that, but he certainly couldn’t mate with me. But Saturday midnight would be a different story. “Now, if you’ll allow my Luna and I a few moments head start, we’ll be off,” Zach said, turning to kiss my cheek. More cheering, and me feeling lost in the ocean, with no life preserver in sight.

Chapter 3 Zoey Malik ~•~ “I, Alpha Conrad of the Crescent Moon Pack, reject you, Zoey Malik, as my fated mate and Luna.” His voice was sharp and cold. I stood frozen. For a moment, I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The pain of the rejection slammed me so hard. I expected it to happen but I wasn’t prepared for it. My wolf let out a whimper, curling in on herself with anguish. “No,” I whispered, my voice faint. “Please don’t do this,” I begged.

And when I survived, she threw me into the bear enclosure at the zoo. Though I had been a zookeeper for years, bears were wild, dangerous creatures. In a desperate bid for survival, I sacrificed one of my own hands to distract the bears and ran toward the emergency exit. But when I reached for my keys, they were gone. In that moment of terror, I realized that Zach had given them to Zayla. "Come on, Joey. Zayla's just curious about the animals. She's pregnant, so be more patient with her. Besides, most of the animals are gentle. It's not like she'll go near the dangerous ones."

Something they enjoyed exploiting. "Practice fields?" Micah asked, his voice loose. Ash nodded, his gaze sweeping over the hallway. It was wolf sniffing its quarry. His eyes rested on me. I tried to disappear, but that didn't work. He had found me. “Look what the wolf dragged in,” Zane Valez said, his signature smirk already in place. He was leaning against the wall, a picture of nonchalant cruelty. “Little Rhea Mooncrest, still clinging to those dusty books. What’s that you’re reading? ‘How to Get a Mate When No One Wants You’?”

They hated her so much that they never failed to show her how much she was unwanted here in Lone Wolf Pack. "Hey Zoey, good luck out there." Zia wished her and she gave her a light grateful smile. She truly needs luck. Once she starts cleaning today, she'd not stop till her shift in the evening is over. Zia was one of her secret friends, a werewolf captured in one of Alpha Zach's conquests. She began to head into the cafeteria to clean the mess those silly werewolves have created, immediately they saw her at the far end of the room clearing the dirty plates, and they began to order food, some even went as far as asking her to bring their food.

It was nice to get him so worked out. “Just tell him you want our mate so he can stop sleeping with her Aiden.” My soft sentimental wolf said, and I sighed. “Do you think that is possible? Zion has found his mate, and he has not stopped sleeping with yours. Do you think if I tell him I want her he will stop?” he kept quiet. That’s what I thought.

My gut, which has made better choices lately than my brain, nodded. Another page talked about marking and the ceremony and the way a pack grows stronger when an Alpha and Luna are mated. Luna. I read it out loud in my head and it sounded ridiculous and heavy at the same time. Another forum thread insisted humans could be mates, whispered about rare clean turnings, about the Moon choosing across species when principles align. The word Moon kept popping up like a proper noun you were supposed to capitalize or else. Some of it was mythology. Some of it was bullshit. Some of it sounded like it had been written by someone whose knuckles still ached when it snowed. I scrolled until the words blurr

Mia started unpacking containers pad thai, spring rolls, mango sticky rice while Zoe paced my tiny living room like she was about to set it on fire. “Okay,” Zoe said, finally stopping. “Here’s the plan. I’ve got dirt. Real dirt. The kind that gets people traded. Remember when Coach said the rookie puked in the team bus after the Vegas trip? I’ve got the video. And the time half the guys got matching tattoos of a dick on their ass because they lost a bet? Timestamped. And don’t even get me started on the group chat from last season when they were ranking the WAGs . ”
