Slapshot Awakening
My mind goes to the way I had to steady him, and hold him up.
Gritting my teeth I skate harder, pushing forward feeling like I need to drown it out.
“Alright, line drills!” Coach’s voice cuts through the air, and I shove everything else aside, I need to work.
We run through more drills and push our bodies hard like we always do. Sweat slickens beneath our gear despite the chill of the rink. It's the same routine that we've done a thousand time. Skating, checking, passing drills and then controlled scrimmages. It never feels easy no matter how much we do it. It's designed to burn and exhaust us, to help keep us sharp.
