Mark flushed and stuttered, “Little ghost, I would be honored, but are you sure?” Smiling Katia replied, “Very sure. You already lead the pack members, and they trust you.” Looking at Eric and Kelp, she asked, “Eric would accept the position of Mark’s beta? He and I once discussed if he was ever an Alpha, who he would like as his beta and gamma. His answer was Eric for Beta because of his level head and loyalty. Kelp that leaves you, and we would all love for you to remain the gamma. You know your job well and will always be one of my gammas, but we all believe you are strong enough to be gamma to more than one Luna.”

Kaiden’s Beta? Hell no.

I said, swirling the wine lazily, like blood in a glass, not bothering to look at him. He groaned like someone being asked to clean a murder scene. “You know I’m not a damn spy, right? I’m your beta. You’ve got wolves for this kind of thing. Use them. I’m sick of all this sneaking around.” A smirk pulled at the corner of my mouth. “And yet, you still do it… Tell me, George, who made you my beta?” “I shouldn’t have to,” he snapped. “But I’m the closest to you. The beta is usually a relative of the alpha. ‘Directly below the beta is what’s called a gamma. They are the best warrior a sleuth has. The gamma stands alone. There is not a gamma sow or a gamma boar. They train the sleuth and protect them. They are who the alpha sends when they need someone hunted down or interrogated. Everyone else is just known by their names and holds no title. They follow the alpha without hesitancy or defiance.’

I mind-linked Jack but he was also the same and could not tell. Before I knew what was happening, Josie moved to stand in front of the Beta. “Are you telling the truth Beta?” she demands. I forgot she was an Alpha in her own right. The Beta looks like he is struggling to remain in command, but he quickly bends his head in acknowledgement of a higher-ranking wolf. “No,” he hisses out.

At that, the wolf in front of her turned his glare to me, like I was the one who was in the wrong. "Do not speak of my mate in this way, human." He growled at me. Before I could open my mouth to call him a piece of shit for protecting this hearless bitch, Travis came out of nowhere and grabbed him by the throat, lifting him off the ground by at least a foot. "Talk to my mate like that again and I will rip your balls off with my bare hands." He hissed at him. I knew Travis was the Beta, which apparantly gave him more power than this wolf I had not yet met, so he immediately began to beg.
