"Hello Princess" *****************************************

Her strawberry blonde hair, usually a wild halo, seemed to literally bounce around her face, framing those wide, baby blue eyes that were practically shining with all the excitement of a kid on Christmas morning. I just shrugged, nudging a stray oat flake with my spoon. “Meh.” Her bouncing stopped abruptly, as if I’d hit a secret off-switch. Her eyes rounded, going full anime-disbelief. "Meh? Meh?! How could you be so cavalier about doing something so monumental? I mean, today we get to practice magic, Genesis! Not just read about it in dusty old textbooks or memorize endless lists of spells and potions. This is the real deal!"

John probed gently, wanting to understand the tale hidden behind those haunted eyes. The girl suddenly looked up, her dark eyes meeting John's as she started her story. "The campsite had been unattended for almost two days," she began, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "I thought someone had abandoned it, and I was desperate. I've been running for days. A pack of wolves attacked the village that my skulk and I were a part of. They were searching for something or someone," she explained, her voice filled with trepidation. "My mama managed to communicate through the link, urging me to hide and run," she finished, a hint of unshed tears glistening in her eyes.

She scoured ancient texts and scrolls, searching for any hint of forgotten power or hidden strength. Hours passed, and Lola's eyes burned from reading by candlelight. Just as she was about to give up, she stumbled upon a dusty, leather-bound tome. The title faded, but she could make out the words "Beast of Gévaudan." Her heart raced as she flipped through the pages, reading about an ancient and powerful creature that once terrorized the lands. The spells within promised immense strength and near invincibility, but they also carried dire warnings of the cost.

Drago had a death grip on her arm, trying to calm her, but who could be calm at a time like this? The golden beast lumbered toward them, then stopped directly in front of Drago, letting out a low growl, steam puffing from it’s huge nostrils. When Drago growled in return, Madchen jumped, trying to free herself from Drago’s grip, but he wasn’t letting her go.
