Olivia had only spent a few hours with her daughter before she was asked the dreaded question. Fortunately, she had already rehearsed a story in the cab, on her way to the hospital, knowing that Laurel would enquire about Desmond, sooner rather than later. “Mr. Desmond went on a business trip, baby.” Olivia lied. “Like those times your daddy used to go away for some days or weeks.” Laurel frowned. “When will he come home?” “Soon. But don’t worry about it, sweetheart. You have me.” Olivia said as she gently patted her daughter’s balding head. Laurel was quickly losing her hair. Her face appeared swollen and her skin was as pale as a ghost's. She had also lost an alarming amount of weight. Olivia remembered the vibrant little girl they had brought to the hospital. Sh
Olivia walked through the gardens, admiring the flowers. Spring would soon come to an end, so the flowers would stop blooming in a few weeks. The dandelions were her favorite. Sebastian knew this, so he had them planted vastly across the gardens. She bent to pluck a small hibiscus, groaning as she did. The pressure on her feet constantly made her exhausted. “You never listen, do you?” Sebastian spoke, walking towards her. He had probably come home early and could not find her inside the house. He knew there was only one other place she could be. “It’s a purple hibiscus, I just had to get a better look.” Olivia spoke, smiling. “You could have called a maid to get it for you.” Sebastian said, putting an arm around her shoulders. “You alone would suggest I call a maid for something as simple as plucking a flower.” Olivia laughed, holding onto her husband. “I only want the best for you and the baby.” Sebastian spoke, rubbing Olivia’s huge baby bump.
Desmond was in the middle of a meeting with the board of directors of Wrightwood Technologies, when his secretary interrupted, with a call from his housekeeper. “It can wait.” He immediately dismissed, annoyed that he was being interrupted. “The housekeeper sounded frantic. She insists that it is urgent.” The secretary insisted. Desmond was not one to ignore any signs of danger or emergency. He excused himself from the conference room to take the call. “I need to speak with Mr. Wrightwood!” His Italian housekeeper spoke frantically on the other end of the line. “What is wrong, Dahlia?” Desmond asked. “Thank God, sir!” The woman spoke, glad that she was speaking directly to her boss. “Your companion, miss Olivia is packing all her belongings. I believe she is leaving, sir.” Desmond ended the call and quickly left Wrightwood Technologies, without bothering to officially end the meeting. He sped home in his sports car, wondering what was happen
“Can I ask you something?” Olivia started as Rob helped her clear the table. “What’s that?” Rob asked, suspicious. “You have to promise to be completely honest.” Olivia urged. “I think I can do that.” Rob agreed, curious to know what she wanted to ask. Olivia let the suspense loom between them until they finished clearing the table and were seated alone in the kitchen. The housekeeper had gone to bed early, so it was unlikely that anyone would overhear them. Standing on opposite sides of the kitchen island helped Olivia get a clear view of Rob. She would be able to watch his reaction very carefully. “What is Desmond’s connection with Gerald Gilbert?” She asked directly. Rob flinched, startled. He was stunned for several minutes before regaining composure. “Why are you asking me this? Have you asked Desmond?” Olivia wanted to, but she had a hunch that he would smoothly deny it. “No, I have not.” She admitted. “Then don’t as
Perhaps the best part of Olivia’s mornings was waking up in Desmond’s arms. He kissed her forehead, as he always did, then got up and started getting ready for his day. Desmond Wrightwood lived a busy life and today was going to be even busier because he was taking Laurel to work with him. The little girl had requested it and Desmond readily agreed, after seeking the doctor’s consent. The doctor saw no problem in a day of fun for Laurel, so he assigned a nurse to go with them. Desmond would pick Laurel up from the hospital that morning and they would spend the rest of the day at his office. “Take as many pictures as you can.” Olivia said to Desmond as they ate breakfast. “My assistant will handle that. My job is to make sure she has a good time.” Desmond replied. Olivia smiled at Desmond admiringly, convinced that heaven sent him to her. Her ex-husband had never taken their daughter to work with him. “This means a lot, Desmond.” Olivia spoke, fighting
Olivia watched as Sebastian and Desmond stared each other down furiously. Dinner was set to be a disaster. She should have known that Sebastian would also be invited, the Gilberts and the Colberts were old friends. “This is my girlfriend, Caroline Sands.” Sebastian introduced his mistress turned girlfriend to Miranda Colbert. Everyone in the room was paying attention to them. “Oh, she is a sweet looking young lady.” Miranda complimented. “And you already put a bun in the oven! Faster than the last, huh.” Sebastian laughed. “She is the one for me. The real love of my life.” “You are not going to rush into marriage again, are you?” Miranda teased, a jab at Olivia and their highly publicized divorce. “Lest you lose half of your company this time.” Sebastian smiled a tight lipped smile. “Never.” Desmond placed a palm on Olivia’s thigh. “Are you okay?” He asked. Olivia nodded. “I’m going to have a word with Miranda right after this dinner.”
