ВойтиMarley looked for any form of recognition from him but found none.
He didn't recognize her.
Marley had a flashback.
Flashback
“Daddy who is he?” A younger Marley asked her father gesturing to the unconscious man lying on the bed with bandage around his head and arm.
“Someone dear. I found him in the river while fishing.” Her father replied her while arranging some pills on the table.
Her father was a traditional doctor who enjoyed fishing in his leisure.
Marley adjusted her thick rimmed glasses and went over to the unconscious man on the bed.
She looked down at him.
He had cuts on his face and lips but he was handsome nonetheless.
“I need to go get some herbs in the garden. Watch over him dear.” Her father left leaving her alone with the stranger.
Marley sat down beside the bed still admiring him.
He mumbled something shaking violently and Marley laid her hand on his quivering hand worriedly.
He calmed down after awhile and opened his eyes slowly.
Marley stared into an ocean blue eyes. The eyes roamed all over her face then across the room then back at her. It was now filled with confusion.
“Hello.” Marley greeted him awkwardly.
“Where am I? Who are you?” His voice was crooked and he tried to sit up but groaned in pain.
“I'll suggest you don't try to sit up sir. My father said he found you in the river with bruises. He has been taking care of you for the past three days and you have been unconscious since.” Marley filled him in.
“What's your name?” She asked him.
The man stared at her. “Anthonio.”
“Anthonio…..” The name rolled off her tongue and she smiled at him.
He didn't smile back but kept on looking at her before realization hit her.
“Ohh my name? Neils. My name is Neils.”
“Isn't that a man's name?” He mumbled but Marley heard him.
“It seems your head is still on track.” It was meant as a joke but Anthonio wasn't smiling.
“I see you can't take a joke. Well Neils is my middle name, I prefer it over my first name. My first name is too girly.”
“So just call me Neils okay?” At that moment her father came in with the herbs.
BACK TO THE PRESENT
Marley swallowed the bile in her throat.
It had been five years ago and even though she had grown older and her features more toned and matured and without any glasses to hide her grey eyes, he wasn't supposed to forget her.
About everything.
Was he pretending or had he lost his memories as the doctors said in the tabloid?
He surely shouldn't have forgotten he was the cause of her father's death, a man who was just offering help to a dying stranger.
Her chest tightened and she struggled to breath.
“Miss Neils?”
Marley turned to see everyone's eyes on her.
Everything was already set up and Anthonio was already sitted. They were waiting for her.
She inhaled inwardly and sat down on the chair opposite him.
She needed to calm down.
She took the questionnaire slips and gave the camera crew cue to start.
“Good day viewers, we have a very special guest with us today, who plans to share a bit of his life's experiences with us.” Marley held on for an heartbeat to make the audience anticipate.
“Anthonio Kalvey.”
She moved on with the questions, of his beginnings and motivation.
He answered eloquently.
Marley's hand tightened on the paper when she came to a certain question.
She looked at him and met his eyes.
“Hmmm, Mr Kalvey, this question has been on every netizen mind and it is about five years ago.”
She saw his lips draw into a thin line.
“What really happened? Was what the tabloids and Internet said true? It was said your car flew over the bridge and you drowned.”
Marley waited for his answer. For any clue that he remembered everything but Anthonio kept quiet, his ocean blue eyes a darker shade now.
“Mr Kalvey?”
“Didn't my secretary tell you guys that questions about the past and accidents won't be tolerated?” His voice was a deeper baritone now.
“Hmmm.” Marley gestured to the camera crew and they understood pausing the recording.
“She was shown the questionnaire and she had no problem with it.” Marley replied him.
Mrs Bling was already sweating in her pants. “I'm sorry sir, but Mr Peter said we shouldn't exempt those questions that it will be better to ease everyone's curiosity.”
Anthonio snickered. “Whose secretary are you?”
“I'm so sorry sir.”
“You are fired.” Anthonio declared and the secretary knelt down begging but Anthonio just sat there feeling unaffected.
Marley watched everything in silence observing him.
He had really changed. Alot. She felt and saw it.
His aura was cold and ruthless.
Anthonio placed a call to someone. “Pack all Mrs Bling belongings immediately. I mustn't meet it there when I come.” He ended the call and glanced over at Marley.
“Don't ask me those questions again. They are my buried past.”
Mrs Bling was still bawling and two securities came out of nowhere and dragged her out.
“Understood sir.” Marley said.
The camera crew hit the recording button and Marley asked him the remaining questions.
~~~~~~~
“Hello boss.”
“What did you find out?”
“Nothing boss. Absolutely nothing, no birth certificate, no knowledge of an high school or college. Just that she has worked in CNS for three years.”
“It's so strange boss. Marley Neils identity only exist around CNS.”
“Okay Bruno. Keep digging for more.” Anthonio ended the call.
~~~~~~~~
“He doesn't remember me or pretending not to.” Marley discreetly spoke to someone over the phone.
“I need to find out. I need to get closer to him. I need to find the culprit for my father's death.”
“I'm not thinking things. He is involved one wa
y or the other and I'm going to find out how. And if he is involved, I'm going to bring Anthonio Kalvey to his ruin.” Marley snarled.
“That I promise.”
``FEW HOURS EARLIER ``Marley unlocked her door and a hand shot out suddenly, dragging her inside.“Ouch. Easy.” Marley hissed and jerked her hand back.“Sorry ma'am.” A man bowed his head.“We should get started.” Marley moved towards a flower vase and she threw it to the ground, and it broke into tiny pieces..She moved to the couch and tried to turn it over. “Hey, I need a hand here.” She said over her shoulder and the man rushed to her side. They both turned the couch upside down.“Mess up this place. I'll take care of my room.” Marley ordered, and the man nodded, then smashed a mirror glass.Marley went into her room and dragged the sheet out of her bed, also doing some damage around the room.Then she went to her safebox and typed in a code, it beeped open. She hurriedly took out the documents from it and placed them into a bag.A flash drive lay inside the safe box and she took it out. She stared at it for a while before putting it into the bag.She stood up and stared around.
“Brother.”“Mandy, what is it?” Anthonio said into the phone.“Why are you sounding like that? Is everything okay?”“I'm fine.”“Is it because the honeymoon was cut short?”“Huh?”“Peter said you were in the office today. Aren't you supposed to be on your honeymoon?”Fuck you, Peter.“Urrrr… I had pending work so we had to come back.”“Ohh…”“Why are you calling?”“I couldn't get in touch with Marley so I called you to ask if you were with her.”“No I'm not with her.”“Isn't she back home yet?”“Huh? Home?”“Yes. Hasn't she moved in?”“Urrr…. She… has.. No, she is not back.” He stuttered.“Ohh okay, I'll call back later.” The call ended and Anthonio sighed.He needed to be careful with the words he uttered.His mind went to Marley. Should he call her?To at least warn her of his sister's call.After much thought, he typed her number but a call came in instead.It was her.“Speak of the devil. I was about to call you…” Anthonio started to say but she interrupted him.“Mr Kalvey… Anthon
Peter walked into Sheinds company, he passed the financial department and saw some of the employees moving around, their feet agitated.Their faces were also agitated and nervous and they were fumbling with papers on their desks.The team leader looked up from his desk and saw Peter. Relief washed in his eyes and he hastened towards him.“Mr King.” He called out as he came forward.“What's going on here?” “Mr Kalvey requested all the financial paperwork from five years ago, we are trying to provide it but one of the papers is missing, that's why everyone is like this. Mr Kalvey must not hear of this if not we may likely lose our jobs.” The man's body was shuddering unknown to him. He was so nervous and afraid.Being the team leader, he was the one with the responsibility for anything going on in his team and if the paper wasn't found, he might lose his job.“But why is Mr Kalvey asking for the paperwork?” Peter asked him. The employees were still moving around and bringing out docume
“Are you married Miss Neils or engaged? Because it looks like an engagement ring. Are you….” John was saying and Marley shook her head.“No, no. It's not. I just got it from a store last week. I didn't mean to wear it on my left finger.” Marley said and chuckled awkwardly.John laughed too. “Thank goodness. That means you are still available.” He grinned and walked away.Marley hurriedly took off the ring and slipped it into her trousers pocket.That was so close. How could she have forgotten the ring on her finger?She turned to leave but bumped into Mick.“Marley….”“Excuse me.” She cut him short and went her way.*What was his deal?*He has been stealing glances at her over the past few weeks, thinking she didn't know.What did he want from her?She settled behind her desk and sighed. She can't afford to deal with Mick right now; he was the least of her problems.She drifted back to oblivion. To the thoughts that have been consuming her mind since Saturday.Anthonio.She was thinki
She wanted to kiss this man.She wanted to kiss her enemy.She must have been going crazy to wish such a thing; yes, she was indeed crazy.Her eyes dwelled on his lips a little longer then she blinked rapidly as if doing so would push away the thoughts in her head.“Are you okay Miss Neils?” Anthonio called out to her and she stopped blinking. “Is something in your eyes?”“I thought you said we should drop the formalities now that we are married.”“I guess you are okay if your tongue is as sharp as this.” Anthonio licked his thumb and Marley averted her eyes.“Don't think so much about the honeymoon. It would also be fake as everything else.”“Ohhh…”Anthonio grunted and wiped his lips with his napkin. Marley struggled not to let her eyes follow the movement.*What was wrong with her?!*“We won't go anywhere for a honeymoon but I'll ask you to keep a low profile from my family especially my sister, now that you guys are …‘friends’.” His lips tugged up and Marley knew he was teasing he
“Congratulations.” Marley and Anthonio nodded at the greetings.“Marley.” Mrs Kalvey came forward, a joyful smile on her face.Marley returned her smile but it faltered a little when Mrs Kalvey pulled her into a warm hug.“I'm so happy you are part of the family now.”Marley didn't respond.Mrs Kalvey turned to her son and hugged him too. “My son.” Her voice was tinted with contentment.“Mother…”“I think Mr Mondrich wanted to speak to you, go on. I'll stay with your wife, dear.” Mrs Kalvey said and Anthonio left to meet the acquaintance.Mandy came forward with a slight smile on her face. “Congratulations.”Marley nodded her head in acknowledgement.“Now that you are married to my brother, I don't wish for us to have any misunderstanding or sour feelings towards one another. I know I haven't been at my best behavior and I'm sure you know why, so let's put it all behind us.” Mandy said and Marley searched her face.Her facial expression was neutral apart from a slight smile at her lip
The hospital door opened and Anthonio stepped in.Marley watched him as he strode towards her, his face softened a little when he saw her awake but it disappeared immediately as she imagined it.“Hey.” She said that when he wouldn't speak and kept staring at her.“How's your head?” He asked.“Good
Marley moved quietly in that direction, her heart thumping fast.She knew it was foolish to follow someone who may be dangerous or armed without being armed herself.She had forgotten to take her pocket knife with her, so now she was left with her fists.She reached the end and turned sharply to th
Anthonio heard her and nodded.“Yes. That is Mandy, my sister.”Marley stared up at him, they were still unnoticed by the women.“Why didn't you inform me beforehand?” She whispered.“Didn't think it was necessary, and just act normal. I know seeing a celebrity can be overwhelming but act natural,
“Hey, girlie.”Marley's stomach churned at the voice. No one needed to tell her who was calling.How did this crook get her number?“It isn't three weeks yet Don.”“Yeah, I know girlie.
