LOGINCHAPTER 27
IMANI TECH - 8:47 AM - MONDAY Monday came like a punch to the face, the sun shone brightly on Imani’s company. Today seemed to be a good one…but not for Sarah as she stood in front of Imani Shawn’s office with a yellow bucket, a mop, and a face that could curdle milk. She was pissed as hell. This wasn’t what her father promised her? She’s supposed to be a fuvking secretary!! She, Sarah Velt — A very well distinguished lady and a woman who once handled board — was holding cleaning tools. She had received an order from above this morning. An email from HR, CC’d to the whole admin team: “Per temporary reassignment, Ms. Velt will assist Facilities in maintaining executive offices, effective immediately. She almost cussed when she had saw the person who signed or probably ordered it. It’s Imani! “I’m going to make her regret all of this! All I need is my footings! Once I’m back on my feet, I’d take—” She hissed. Then remembered Luke, “That man is mine.” She declared clenching on her fist. Sarah kicked the bucket almost making the water sloshed. “Clean Imani’s office,” she muttered to herself, mocking the email. “Clean Imani’s office like I’m her maid.” She barged into Imani’s office. Imani wasn’t there yet — 8:47, she has been told Imani was always late on Mondays because of cleanups and new schedules. . Sarah started cleaning, slamming the duster against the desk, wiping the glass too hard, she almost broke it out of frustration. That’s when she saw it. On the desk, left open, not even in a drawer — a black file folder. It wasn’t labeled, but the top page was sticking out. IMANI TECH CONFIDENTIAL - PROJECT ECHO - Q1 2027 LAUNCH Credentials, Patent Filings, Investor Deck - Pre-NDA Sarah’s heart stopped, This is the Credentials information about Imani’s new project. “Isn’t this the new project to brink back the stocks?” She mumbled to herself. Sarah looked at the door, No one in sight. She looked back at the file. It’s a project that’d save Imani Tech. Her hand hovered over it. One sneak peak, she brought out her phone and turned on the camera, “You’re doomed, Imani-” She was about taking a sneak peak at it — her fingers just brushing the edge of the paper, lifting it — when someone walked in. “—so Emily, tell the facilities team that—” Imani stopped mid-sentence. She was standing in the doorway, holding two coffees, Her eyes went straight to Sarah and trailed her from up to down, landed first on the mop then to her hand on the confidential file. Silence took over the room for a second and immediately Sarah froze, she could say a word. Imani’s voice was ice cold. “What are you doing, Sarah?” She took a step foward, her eyes peircing into Sarah’s skin. Sarah snatched her hand back like she’d been burned. “I... I was cleaning,” she said quickly, too quickly. “Your desk was dusty. I was—” Imani walked slowly into her office, placed the coffees down, and closed the door behind her. The soft click of the lock was louder than a gunshot. “I asked what you were doing with my file,” Imani said, her eyes never leaving Sarah’s face. Sarah lifted her chin, trying to regain her composure. “It was open. I was moving it so I wouldn’t get Windex on it. You shouldn’t leave confidential information lying around, Imani. That’s a risk.” Imani stared at her for a long time. Then she picked up the file, closed it calmly, and slipped it into her desk drawer, which she locked with a key. “Thank you for your concern,” Imani said, with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “But next time you touch something on my desk again without permission, I won’t just have you cleaning it. I’ll have you cleaning out your desk permanently. Am I clear?” Sarah’s face turned red. “You can’t talk to me like that, Imani. I’m—” “Ms. Imani. That’s what you get to call me. I’m your boss, remember?” Imani snapped cutting her off immediately. “But….” “You work is done here, Ms. Velt,” Imani said. “You may leave.” --- KILLAN HOUSE—-SAME MORNING Roi Morgan got up the next day, dressed up and ready to leave. Not like yesterday —looking like a rugged man. He’s putting on a crisp navy suit, his hair combed back, clean-shaven, wearing Killian’s expensive cologne. He has a striking resemblance with Killian, just that he had a bigger body. Killian was in the kitchen, making black coffee, still pale and still recovering and when he came out and saw Roi all dressed up, he frowned in confusion. “Where are you dressed to?” Killian asked. Roi grinned, fixing his cufflinks — Killian’s cufflinks. “Imani Tech,” he said casually. Killian’s hand tightened around his mug. “What? What are you doing to do there?” Killan questioned. Roi smirked, enjoying this. “Flirt with her,” he teased him, pushing every button. That generated a rage reaction from Killan as he expected. “I’m going to win Imani over,” Roi said, walking closer. “Since you’re too much of a coward to tell her you like her. Someone has to. She’s hot, she’s a CEO, she’s a MILF — the whole package. Maybe…just maybe..I’d be taking her to my bed…” He added. Killian almost punched Roi. He actually stepped forward, his fist clenched, his fever making his eyes wild. Roi didn’t flinch. He enjoyed how triggered he was. He lived for this. “Whoa, whoa, easy, little brother,” Roi said, smirking, putting his hands up. “Relax. I’m kidding. Sort of.” Killian was breathing hard. “Don’t you dare go near her. Stop making dirty jokes around her,” Roi’s smirk widened. He adjusted his tie in Killian’s entrancemirror. “Relax,” he said again, his voice dropping to that cruel, soft tone. “I’m going there to work as well. It’s not only you Dad got a job there, huh?” Killian blinked. “What are you talking about?” “I’m the new Head Researcher at Imani Tech,” Roi said, pulling a shiny new ID badge out of his pocket. It was real. IMANI TECH - HEAD OF RESEARCH - ROI MORGAN. Killian stared at it. “How..” He patted Killian’s shoulder hard as he walked past him toward the door. “Don’t worry, little brother. I’ll do no harm to your girl..trust me,” Roi winked and finally walked away.CHAPTER 34Killian drove them back home, the reporters were gone and no one was stalling in front of her house anymore. Jaden was half-asleep on her shoulder, she pat his hair. “Thank you,” Imani said to Killian in the car, her voice quiet. “For today. For Jaden. For — for everything.”Killian looked at her, his hands still on the wheel. “You don‘t have to thank me.”“I do,” she said. “For a while, I forgot my worries and it was possible because you were there,” Imani muttered.“…I don‘t know who saved my company, but I know it wasn‘t luck.” She mumbled getting off the car. Killan came out of the driver seat, “Tomorrow is going to be a great one. Have a goodnight rest,” He waved and Jaden lifted his head on Imani shoulder. Jaden woke up just enough to wave, he got down from Imani’s arms, “Bye, Daddy!” He giggled and ran inside the house Imani froze, her face burned. “I‘m sorry, he — he keeps saying —”“It‘s okay,” Killian said softly. “Goodnight, Imani.”She watch him get back i
CHAPTER 33 - A Soft and warm sun shine through Killan loft windows, Imani blinked, her eyes opening up. Her eyes were swollen, Her throat was dry. She remembered how much she has cried last night, she must have cried her sleep to bed — her cheeks still had dried tears, her eyelashes stuck together. Her hands ran over her mouth, She didn‘t know when she slept there. In Killan’s room? Last thing she remembered was crying in front of Killian, After that — nothing. She must have passed out from exhaustion. She sat up fast, looking around. Facepalming herself in embarrassment, she looked at his mother‘s frame on the nightstand thenlooked over the couch, Her red blazer folded neatly on the chair. But Killian wasn‘t in bed. “Killian?” she called. “Killian?” No one responded. Which got her worried. She swung her legs off the bed — she was still in yesterday‘s inner clothes — and walked barefoot toward the stairs. Until she walked down the stairs and her nostril hit with a delic
CHAPTER 32 - BREATHEImani got into Killian's car, she slid in and went quiet. She saw Emily diverting the reporter away from Killan’s car. Killian got in the driver's seat, locked the doors, and pulled out of Imani tech garage, past the cameras, past the whole chaos. The whole street of New York as loud but suprisingly, inside the car it was silent.Imani rested her head against the window, series of questions ran through her mind, loud and messy.“Did I know? Did I ignore the signs about Luke?” “How long has be been a threat?” “Did I ruin everything by setting that trap?”She stared out the window, hands clenched in her lap, breathing shallow.Killian didn't ask her to talk. He just reached over and pressed a button on the console. He helped her open the car roof — the panoramic sunroof sliding back, allowing her to receive fresh air.Cold breeze touched Imani face distracting her from all what she has been thinking, she looked at Killian who only focused on driving. "Breathe,"
CHAPTER 31 The room froze after hearing what Sarah had just uttered, Imani frowned. “What? What the hell are you talking about?”Sarah laughed, even as the guards pulled her. “You trapped me with a fake file? Cute. But your precious Luke tortured a few of the shareholders! He almost killed them! Just so he could become partners with you! He wanted your company, not you!” Luke stood up so fast that his chair fell. “She’s lying! She’s insane! Don’t listen to her, Imani—” he defended and looked over at the guards. “Guards! Take her out,” Luke yelled and they kept pulling Sarah out but she only laughed like a maniac. Then just as she was being dragged away, messages, videos, news flew through everyone’s phone, gasped followed. Emily who has received a message as well, ran towards Imani with a dark and pale face, holding an iPad with trembling hands, “Ms Shawn... you need to see this.”On the screen — a video. Shaky, taken in a dark steakhouse. Luke Anderson sitting with two of Imani
30Morning came faster than anything else, the office homepage on social media filled with claims of theft. Suprisingly someone has leaked the project from Imani’s office. Not in the news but on the company’s page where everyone had access to. At 9:03 AM, an anonymous email was forwarded to the entire Imani Tech board, to all department heads, to Legal, to PR. The subject line:RE: PROJECT ECHO - STOLEN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY?Inside was Sarah Velt’s photo of the credentials file. And a note:> “As a concerned employee and eye witness, I have reason to believe that PROJECT ECHO is not an original project. This is a stolen project from another tech company. Credentials show it was copied from a popular Tech’s internal archive. Imani Shawn is putting Imani Tech at risk of a massive lawsuit and theft! - A Loyal Employee”Sarah sent it from a burner email, but she stood by the coffee machine like an eyewitness, like a hero.“It’s true!” she told anyone who would listen, her voice shaki
29Roi was now in Imani’s office, his suit jacket had been taken away to clean it properly. He was in his white shirt, sleeves rolled up, tie loosened, sitting like he owned her office. His badge — IMANI TECH - HEAD OF RESEARCH - ROI MORGAN — sat on her desk.Imani stood by the window, arms crossed, looking at him.Now she understood why the new Head Researcher’s name sounds so familiar.“Are you Killian’s brother?” Imani asked directly. No hello, no welcome.Roi smiled. That same Morgan smile, but colder than Killian’s. “Took you long enough. I was wondering when you’d notice. We are alike, aren’t we?”“We are not—” Imani stopped herself. They were. Same jawline. Same height. Same dark hair. But Killian’s eyes were always tired, always carrying something. Roi’s eyes were empty and amused.“What brings you to my company? I checked your résumé and I saw your great works which made me wonder why you left them and came here?,” Imani said quietly Roi touched the back of his head unconsc
11.The Next morning. “What are we doing here? Isn't this your father's house?” Luke asked immediately the car stopped at Sarah's family house. Sarah held a very beautiful and hopeful smile.“Yes.” She answered.“So…he’s our solution? The one you mentioned?” Luke asked, dragging his last words. Sa
—-“Err…Emily, Hi?” Imani waved at all of them, confirming she was the one. Emily sprang up on her feet, “It’s really you! I thought you weren’t coming?” Emily asked, her voice sounding excited. Killan stared at Imani beautifully, he was happy she’s here.“Er..I..I thought it wouldn’t be nice if I
EIGHTThe following DayImani stood in front of her closet, her eyes scanning through the array of designer suits and dresses. Since she missed her schedule yesterday, she had tons of meeting waiting for her. She settled on a sleek black dress, pairing it with statement jewelry and heels. As she be
