Brielle’s POV

I stared at the strange envelope laying neatly on my desk.

Thicker than my usual envelopes. Cream-colored with another colour to it. A red stamp, with enough legal insignias to make my stomach drop before I even made a move to touch it.

I stood in the foyer, heels still on, coat still draped over my arm, staring at the man who’d just handed it to me like he’d delivered a bomb instead of an actual paper.

“Ms. Julliard,” he said politely, already stepping back as if staying any long

  • After He Took It All   The Final Stand

Axel’s POVThe sound of the helicopter blades faded into the distance.A sound that reassured me of their safety.Of their whereabouts.Which was enough for me to feel something inside my chest unclench for the first time since I saw that empty crib.Knowing that they were finally safe with us.That Alexei had them up there.God help me, the only person reckless and soft-hearted enough to throw chili powder at armed men and still apologize about it later.Good.Let him cook.Because I was done pretending to be civilized. My eyes and lungs still burned from the smoke of the aftermath, but none of that compared to what was coming for him.I turned back slowly. My father stood a few feet away, wiping at his eyes with a handkerchief like this had been a minor inconvenience at brunch. His security detail was coughing, disoriented. Some were still down on one knee, blinking through tears.Brielle didn’t hesitate—yes, she came with me too.We couldn't let him go scot-free after all. Knowing

  • After He Took It All   The Unlikely Savior

Alexei’s POVOkay. In my defense, I didn’t plan for it to look this dramatic. The helicopter part? Yes. That was intentional. The rest?Improvised brilliance.I had exactly twelve minutes between the last call with Brielle’s legal team and realizing that if I didn’t physically show up, someone in that nightmare of a cliff was going to die.Probably multiple people. So I did what any reasonable, non-violent, academically distinguished genius would do.I emptied my pantry. The helicopter blades roared over the estate, loud enough to rattle my clenched teeth. The pilot kept yelling something about crosswinds and clearance, but I was too busy clutching my backpack for my dear life.I never loved helicopters.Gosh, the things you did for your friends.Below, through the open side door, I saw what remained of the gates, courtyard, and er… let's just say….I wasn't too thrilled anymore. Something in my gut told me it had nothing to do with Axel.Axel meant dead bodies laying around. Not li

  • After He Took It All   The Prodigal Daughter’s Move

Brielle’s POVFor just a second, I felt the world tilt around me.Not because of fear. No, no, no no.But simply because the Chairman—this monster carved out of arrogance and cruelty—had gone frozen and annoyed.Leo’s words hung in the air, small and clear and devastating. They landed exactly where they were meant to.Right in the middle of him.The smile on his face didn’t drop immediately. It twitched first. Just a fraction long. Like a crack in glass you only notice when the light hits it wrong. That was all I needed to know what his move was.I finally made my move. Not too fast, or too dramatic. Just one step to the side, heels clicking softly against polished stone. Calm enough to look unbothered. Controlled enough to look like the stupid ‘inevitable’ he was talking about.Axel felt it beside me—the shift. I didn’t look at him, but I knew he sensed it the way he always did. It was our move now.The Chairman slowly turned his gaze from Leo to me.“Well,” he said lightly, recove

  • After He Took It All   Ice Cream And Threats

Axel’s POVI could end it all in three seconds. That was the first thought that burned through my head as I stood there, staring at the table like it was an altar built to mock me.Three seconds.Draw. Aim. Fire. The Chairman wouldn’t even have time to blink. My hand was already halfway to my jacket. But then, Brielle moved. Not in a fast manner that'd give me away. But to hold me back from giving us away. Her fingers brushed against my wrist lightly, but I could feel just how much she was holding back from encouraging me.Dammit.Women.That single touch stopped me better than any of her yells would have.Especially when she gave me those doe eyes as a warning.I couldn't see fear in them.Only calculation and relief. Relief that our kids were alive. And as they moved to the side, I saw what she was signaling at.The chairs. At first glance, they looked harmless—high-backed, cushioned, child-sized versions of the monstrous table they sat at. Soft leathers comfortable enough to lull a

  • After He Took It All   The Fortress Of The Dead

Brielle’s POVThe roads up ahead became clearer the closer we got to the coast. To my right, the cliffs there appeared like jagged teeth ready to take us in for one heck of a ride. And to my left, the ocean sprawled endlessly with waves. You know, those kinds of waves that swallowed things up entirely and never gave them back.Chills ran down my spine as I darted my attention away from the sides, and instead, watched the blinking dot on my phone with a tight-lipped smile. It was still moving.Good.Because moving still meant they were up and alive. As for Axel?Well…he hasn't spoken in like, twenty minutes or so.Not a single word. Both hands gripped on the steering wheel tightly like it was the only thing anchoring him to reality. His jaw clenched for so long that I could almost hear his teeth grinding, especially whenever I made a movement around him.Every time the GPS recalculated, his foot would only press harder on the accelerator, and the veins on his biceps only visible from h

  • After He Took It All   The Empty Nursery

Axel’s POVI don’t remember driving here.Sure, I remember red lights turning green across the traffic.I remember Brielle’s hand clenched around the door handle like she was scared she'd been flung away if I pressed too hard on the brakes.I remember my heart beating so loud it drowned out the engine. But the road itself?Gone. The estate gates recognized the plates on my car and slid open smoothly, obedient as always, and something about that—how normal it was—made dread crawl up my spine.Security was already moving when we stepped out. Radios crackling through the speakers. Voices tight with panic and a calm tension like they knew everything. But they were too late.I didn’t wait.I ran.Not walking. Or jogged. I ran like a man chasing a thief, boots pounding against marble, breath heaving in and out of my chest as the house blurred around me.“Axel—” someone called. But I didn’t stop. The nursery door was still ajar. That was the first red bell ringing in my mind. The second wa
