Escaping

Evelyn's POV

In no time many hours passed, but because of how dark the dungeon was, there was no way I was going to be able to distinguish between day and night.

I could only pray to the Moon goddess to help me out. I knew I would be doomed if I didn't escape tonight. It was the chance I had and I knew I had to use it rather well.

Creak!

The door of the dungeon opened and a guard walked and dragged me out without saying a word.

Just as I had guessed, it was already nighttime. The whole of the pack was in a festive mood. There was light everywhere and kids could be seen running around.

"Go join the maids over there and help prepare for the festival." The guard said, throwing me roughly to the floor.

I could only groan in pain as I stood up to help the other maids in the distance. Just as I had expected, the others didn't talk to me and even isolated themselves from me, afraid that I was going to cause the Alpha to set sight on them.

Sighing, I could only carry out the job assigned to me without any help from the others, but then all that didn't matter to me. I knew all I had to do was to be patient, by midnight, the guards would be drunk, then it was going to be my chance.

Before long, the festival began, and just as usual, I was isolated from everyone else, I could only watch as they had fun while I was being an outcast. But then I could care less about this.

In a few hours, it would be midnight and I would be able to find my chance and then escape. Even though I knew that what I was about to do was risky, I wouldn't know if I could succeed if I didn't try.

I didn't have any belongings in the pack and my clothes were all old and worn out. If not for the fact that I was taken pity upon, I guessed I would be walking around naked as I had no clothes apart from the ones on my body.

Even the one on my body was all torn in different places and in no time, I would be no different from naked. Right now, all I needed to do was to sneak away from the festival as quickly as I could or else I was going to be unable to escape once the Alpha caught sight of me.

Looking around, I sneaked around trying to gather as little attention as I could. Before long, I got out of the festival place and headed south. This place had the least concentration of guard and also the longest route to get out of the pack.

Since I wanted to escape undetected, I had chosen this path after a lot of consideration. Considering how intelligent Alpha Kyle was, there was no way I was going to be able to fool him.

At this time, I could only pray to the moon goddess to let Alpha Kyle think I had taken east or north which were the two fastest routes out of the pack. Though I was gambling with my life for him not to find out quickly, there was nothing I could do if he found out quickly.

Alpha Kyle was rather observant and I was sure that it wouldn't take long for him to notice that I was missing. Even though I wanted to increase the speed at which I was moving, I found it rather impossible.

The pain and weakness in my body made me unable to move faster than I was already moving. I was probably going to collapse if I tried to move faster than I was already.

I could only hope Alpha Kyle wasn't going to discover my disappearance any time soon. I needed to buy myself a lot of time or else, I was going to be doomed if he discovers.

Bang!

I collided with a figure just as I was running, making me fall to the floor. Immediately, a sense of premonition arose in my heart as I stood up and looked at the figure.

Frowning, I saw that the figure was a man in his late sixties. But from the looks of it, he didn't seem to be a member of the pack and it made me wonder if he was a spy.

But then I could care less about that at the moment, I needed to leave as soon as I could. I didn't know if Alpha Kyle had noticed that I was missing or not.

"I'm sorry," I muttered an apology and tried to continue running away.

"She couldn't have gone far, found her!" A voice drifted into my ears making me stop in my tracks.

It seems like my plan was useless, Alpha Kyle had already discovered that I was missing and had sent his guards after me. Even if I ran with all my strength, the guards would catch me.

What the hell was I supposed to do at this moment, I was out of ideas. I didn't want the guards to capture me back as I knew I couldn't possibly go back to the pack.

"Young lady, get over here." The old man suddenly called out to me.

Knowing there was no place to hide, I reluctantly went over. It was not as if he would be able to help me anyway.

"Hide over there." The old man continued and pointed at a rather large stone.

I looked at the old man feeling rather dumbfounded but still, I decided to heed his words and went over to hide at the back of the stone.

Soon enough, the guards who were searching for me came into view while looking around. At that moment, my heart couldn't help but beat wildly, for a moment, I thought it was going to burst out of my chest.

At that moment, I was very anxious to see what was going to happen. I did not know the old man who had told me to hide behind the huge rock, but my intuition was telling me he wasn't as simple as he seemed to be.

The guards who were searching for me froze when they saw the old man. From the looks on their face, I could sense their respect and immediately, I knew that the position of the old man wasn't simple.

"What are you looking for that you have the nerves to disturb me?" The old man frowned as he asked coldly.

"Sir..sir we are looking for a slave who had escaped and we suspect that she might she followed this route..." One of the guards managed to say.

At that moment, my heart couldn't help but skip a beat. It seems like I was saved tonight. Since the man had told me to hide, he was likely going to help me escape. But then what could his position be that made the guards respect him so much?

"Nobody has been here, you can all go back." The man said and waved his hands rather impatiently.

The guards nodded and left immediately not daring to stay.

"You can come out." The old man smiled as he looked toward where I was hiding.

"Thank you, sir, I appreciate it," I bowed, wanting to thank him.

"No need for you to thank me, it's what I should have done. Once you walk ahead, take your left, you should be able to get out of the pack even quicker using that route," The old man smiled, patting my shoulder.

I couldn't help but bow to the old man as I knew he was trying to help me out.

"There's no need for you to bow, hurry up, that's the little I can do to help." The old man smiled.

"Yes." I nodded and rushed off in the direction he had pointed.
