Chapter 10

Carmilla

"Carmilla, wait here," Evans commanded, with his authoritative voice echoing through the temple.

I nodded, standing still like a statue, and scanning my surroundings with wide eyes.

Evans took the woman's hand, and they vanished into the dark, eerie corridors.

I swallowed hard, anxiety creeping up my spine.

Suddenly, a woman's piercing shriek shattered the silence, sending ripples of vibrations through my head. I covered my ears, feeling weak and disoriented.

The floor seemed to spin beneath my feet, making my legs waver.

The woman's whispers grew louder, her voice chanting unknown words as she shook her wrists, adorned with clinking metals.

Her eyes turned pale white, staring blankly into space.

I felt an unseen force knock me to the floor. My grip on my ears faltered, and the woman's chants seeped into my soul.

"Evans!" I tried to call out, but my voice was trapped in my throat.

Hot tears streamed down my cheeks as I closed my eyes, surrendering to the

Chapter 11 .. .Carmilla It wasn't full moon yet, but everyone already revealed their abilities to shift. The fear of the upcoming full moon event made me shiver. What excuse would I have for my inability to transform into a wolf? The sounds of different growls rung in my ears, reaching my head and causing a turmoil in my brain. Some growls were croaky, others firm and a few were more of squeaks. I had no courage to laugh at the squeaking werewolves, as I myself have neither shifted nor growled before.I heard paw steps, rather than footsteps around the corridor. All I could do was creep downwards, at the other end of the bed and squat where no one would find me. Just then, a chestnut brown wolf stood at the door. It's head poked in, scan in round the room. The black wolf which had left earlier came in, blocking the path of the brown wolf. It growled softly. The other did the same. I could hear everything they said."The lady?" the brown one hooted in a firm voice."Out there."

They were all in hand gloves. The men shivered, looking at Russell.I observed their movements closely.Their eyes were fixed on Russell, as if pleading.Something was off about this... everything was off.I could smell something burning. It was then I realised that the guards had used silver handcuffs on these men."Silver?" I whispered to Evans."10 percent silver. Enough to get their hands damaged, but not enough to kill." He replied.I swallowed in relief. These men had better said the truths and be released from this torment.Their eyes were still fixed on Russell."Speak. I command you!" Evans yelled this time. His rage could not be hidden."My Lord...." The dark haired man began to say. "We didn't offer him food nor water hence it is not of poisoning, my Lord." "Was he attacked?" Evans replied harshly."No, my Lord. No marks except the claws f

Everything had been dramatically strange, leaving an eerie sensation.I began to wonder if getting married was actually the beginning of my life's torment.Still recovering from the shock, I crashed to the bed, setting with my legs crisscrossed, staring into space. The meal was there, uncovered. I had doubts about what was beneath the lids, especially if the food was poisoned."Hey." A voice jerked me into reality. I realized that Evans beta was in the room."Are you good?" His brows raised."Mhhm..." I nodded. His forehead folded, reading concern."You should rest up. Alpha has a meeting with his father. It'll be a long one." Cole replied.I swallowed on hearing the word "long one." Of course, something was obviously wrong with the death of the offender, as well as the killing of the guards.Evans' POV I squeezed the door open and forced my way in. "Father

Chapter 14The night had ended with less drama. Just the birds flapping wings around, perching from tree to tree. Some hummed tunes that I could not fathom. I went to bed after having the almond nut I found in Evans' pocket, as he was the only person I could trust at the moment.A cock crowed, and then another. In a sequence, my eyes slowly opened, squinting at first, trying to adjust to the new morning rays. Touching the sheet by my sides lazily, I figured out it was empty as expected.Evans did not pass the night in the same bed with me.I sat up, hushing a yawn with the back of my hand. My hair sprawled down my back, looking webbed, indicating that I hadn't brushed the strands in quite a while. All thanks to my mother's genes and these sheen black hair of mine. I do not look too bad to be rated 'crazy'.I adjusted my clothes, covering what was left of my dignity - my cleavage. Evans happened to be in the room all night, leaning on the long wooden chair firmly padded with cotton

Cole – Evans’ beta was there, amidst a few maidens. Well, quite a number of them.He was the only male in the gathering. In hasty steps, I approached the company. “Hi.” Cole waved as soon as he noticed my presence.“Evans.” I swallowed. My chest rose and fell, as I was panting. “Cole, where is Evans?”He scanned my face for about two seconds before speaking. “He is quite a busy man. He’ll join us in a bit”Tightening my grip on the napkin, my voice was firmer. “Where is he right now?” This was more of a threat than a question.“Easy, easy.” Cole reply in a hushed tone. He signaled at the ladies to leave, and immediat

Chapter 16After the so called fight or training, an old man rushed to the duo, standing at the middle. He grabbed a hand each from the men and raised it high.“It’s a tie!” he pronounced.I have never heard screams as loud as this. The people seemed to have so much life within them. For once, I was happy to be amongst them. Happy to have been sold off to this pack like a piece of item.Cole and Evans pulled each other in a very brief hug, after which they gave each other fist bumps. They disappeared into the crowd of young soldiers who must have watched the fight to learn. I excused myself from the cheerleaders, heading towards the room. It was useless so wait behind and struggle with this multitude to see the alpha and beta. I scurried through. “Excuse me.” I said, tapping shoulders of those who were too carried away to hear my voice. In a spur of the moment, I felt very light weight…like I couldn’t feel my body anymore. CHAPTER 17Russell Reeds’ eyes gleamed with a magnetic pull, his warm smile almost promising trust. It was a dangerous kind of charm—the kind that could easily lead someone astray if they weren't careful. I shook the thought off like a stubborn shadow.“I’m still curious about your relationship with my father,” I said, my voice steady as I watched his smile falter—just for a heartbeat—before snapping back into place.Without a word, he grabbed his half-filled goblet of wine and downed the rest in one greedy gulp. A loud, unashamed belch ripped from his throat, making the silverware on the table rattle. Tiny droplets of red wine clung to his thick brown beard, dripping into the plate of half-eaten food in front of him. He lifted his empty cup high into the air like a victorious warrior showing off a trophy.I frowned. I had asked a serious question, one that deserved respect—yet here he was, treating it like a game.Russell smiled lazily and nodded“Your old man and I,” he began. “We

This was the moment I was waiting for. Struggling to shout was futile, as her grip over my mouth was tight as if clamped by a machine. “Hushhhhh. My husband was killed by your very husband and his ruthless father.” She whispered into my ear, exhaling warm air which sent jolts to my spine. “I want him to feel the same pain I felt when I wept that day” One hand was still free. I leaned backwards to give me the leverage to pull out the knife unnoticed. The knife came out without the seal. Brilliant! With trembling hands and newly found courage imbibed in me by the weapon I now possessed, I forcefully turned around to face her. My whole body ached as a result of that single motion.I aimed at nowhere in particular, maybe to scare her off. The woman ducked, suffering a small scratch on her face. She cussed holding her che

CHAPTER 34...Carmilla I felt a really powerful force, similar to a gush of wind. The force lifted me off the floor and threw me towards the door. Katrina continued muttering those words which echoed in my head, now sounding like it wasn’t her voice alone-as though there were several others chanting with her. When the chant had reached its peak, the lights in the room blinked, and Brenda dropped to the bed. Katrina’s eyes became normal instantly. Although, she was sweaty and quite red around her face region.“Are you not leaving?” Katrina asked as soon as she opened the door. I followed behind like a pet strolling behind its master. When we arrived at her room, she pushed her hair backward, finger-combing and cussing.“What was that?” She raised her voice at me.“I don’t know. I thought you were going to harm her.” I whispered. My body still shivered. “You cannot leave her with such information, Luna.” Katrina didn’t shout again.I nodded meekly. “She would be fine. I only er

Of course, there was a masked man running frantically out of my room with small droplets of blood dripping from somewhere, she was expected to be shocked. But, I was satisfied because this is the third most powerful fighter in the park. Regardless of who this man may be, he cannot stand her blows.Well, I was so disappointed to see Brenda step back. She gave him quite a distance and stood aloof while he sprinted out the corridor. She neither chased him nor yelled at him. I stood up immediately, in an attempt to run out, at least to see where he was heading to, but Brenda wrapped her arms around me, pulling me to a hug. “Are you okay?” she asked. I nodded. Okay…this was weird, but I shrugged it off, because Brenda was being so nice to me. Super nice huh!I pulled myself out of her arms and shook my head. I was still in just a towel, and its grip was starting to look loose. I hurried back into the room with Brenda following me. “I’m fin

"Let's keep moving," I suggested, tugging on his hand. "We don't want to get left behind. As we walked further, the lights flickered, and a sudden gust of wind blew made the room ghostly. Evans's grip on my hand tightened."I didn't expect this" he whispered, his voice low and husky.I felt a shiver run down my spine as he pulled me closer. I was equally frightened, but I tried to shrug it off."Just Child's play." I whispered back, sounding sarcastic.Suddenly, a faint whispering started around us, the words were unfathomable. CHAPTER 30...Carmilla “Excuse me.” I whispered, placing my hand on his face, pushing him backwards. He reeked of alcohol in his breath. It then dawned on me that he had been drinking with Brenda. If he was putting up such act here, who knows what had happened with Brenda in her room.He sat on the floor before me, drunken and dizzy, his head fell the side occasionally as he stuttered unscrupulous words which I could not fathom. I threw the blanket on him and climbed to the bed. I was generous enough to leave the bed cover to him. Afterall, he should have been in the arms of another woman, buried underneath her sheets. Evans came up to join me on the bed. He spread the blanket over both of us. I couldn’t resist the warmth of the cotton on my skin, but I couldn’t bear being in the same bed with him. I made a move to leave the bed, but his hands grabbed my waist and pulled me close to him in such a way that I felt my butt resting against his rock hard abs.My heart jumped within.

CHAPTER 29 . . . Carmilla I knew there was everything wrong with this trip. I felt the world juggle me like a ball. Evans looked equally frustrated. Same with Brenda. She looked like she had been slapped in her face. Yes, it was awkward, but I liked the look she gave. She looked defeated. Evans gave me a questioning look as if asking if I had any way out of the mess his father had put us. We obviously had no choice. He distributed the keys amongst us. Every other person had a room to himself, except Evans and me. Evans unlocked the door and moved his things in, while I grudgingly followed behind with mine. As expected, there was only one bed in the room. There was also no couch which one of us could lay on. I nearly ran wild at the thought of having my bath, while he sits in the bedroom waiting for me to come out with the towel hugging my wet skin. I shook the thought off my head. It was already night fall, and of course, I needed to have my bath after the long trip. We h

I am not sure I am interested in a vacation.” I said, rather angrily.“Do not reject the royal offer.” Russell Reeds replied in a calm tone, which still managed to sound like a threat. I looked at Evans to observe his expression. His gaze was fixed on his food as he munched on. I wanted to protest, but I knew better. It was best not to offend this man. But c’mon! Brenda offered to train who? Me? Gosh! I didn’t need any sorceress to tell me I was doomed. The rest of the dinner was the most annoying moment of my life. I munched and swallowed angrily. After the horrendous meal, I stormed to the residence, with Evans trying to meet

CHAPTER 27...CarmillaIt shattered my heart to see the friends fight. I knew that Cole had done something that betrayed Evans’ trust, but looking at it from another perspective, Cole was only acting based on the royal command.“You do not know how things work in the palace. Do you?” Cole yelled. A fight was already stirred up.“Oh! Teach me!” Evans hit his chest. His brows raised.“Wasn’t it better to have me do the dirty work?” he equally shouted. “Other than having another person do it.” His tone was lowered when he continued his statement.Evans turned his back against his friend. I could sense that these men had each other’s interests at heart all along.I coughed loudly to get their attention, and I did.“Hey…” I paused because the silence was deafening. “I understand that all this is happening because of me.” If this marriage hadn’t happened, the duo would never have raised their voice against eachother. “No, Luna.” Cole said.“The king was probably worried about me that h
