Chapter 7: Finding Shelter

Elena's POV

It has been over two hours since I have been running through the thick forest. Being in my Wolf form, I was able to maintain my stamina for more than two hours without tiring out despite my pregnancy.

While running, the only people I could think about were the guards in the palace. Knowing what Darian was capable of, I knew that he was surely going to slaughter them once he returned to the castle and discovered that I had escaped under their watch. He might even accuse them of being the ones who helped me escape. I pray that the moon goddess forgives me for this and does not also put the blood of those innocent guards on my head.

As I was still running, I felt this inner joy within myself because I was finally free from Darian's Citadel, but now the main question was, Where am I running to? Actually, I didn't have any destination in mind before leaving the castle, and right now I still don't know where I'm running; I'm only running to where my legs are taking me while hoping for the best.

As I was still on my way, the atmosphere started becoming cloudy and the wind started blowing violently.

I didn't need anyone to tell me that it was soon going to rain, and I needed to find shelter somewhere in order for me not to be beaten by the rain.

After running for some minutes while fighting against the wind, I finally found a cave, which I entered in order to take shelter. Just a few minutes after entering the cave, the rain started pouring down heavily. Without wasting more time, I shifted back into my human form before putting on a long gown that I took from the little luggage that I took with me while escaping from the castle.

After putting on the gown, I brought out some snacks that I had taken with me and started eating them.

While eating, I decided to link up with Tricksy, my wolf; surely she would be very tired after the long run.

"Hey Tricksy How are you feeling?" I asked her after mind-linking with her.

"I'm fine, Ana; I still can't believe that we have finally escaped from that he'll call castle," Tricky said to me, and immediately I smiled at her.

"You are right, dear; living in that castle is similar to living in hell," I said to Tricksy while thinking about the whole thing I have gone through at the hands of Darian.

"So tell me, Elena, now that we have left the castle, where are we heading?" She asked me through the link.

"To be sincere, Tricksy,I don't have any clue; we will be heading wherever the wind blows us," I said to her in reply.

"Not a bad idea though; I hope that Darian doesn't catch up with us; probably he's already aware of you escaping from the castle, and he's certainly looking for you," Tricksy said to me.

"You are right, Tricksy, but I don't think that he's ever going to be able to find me, or maybe he isn't even looking for me. Mind you, he can still get another she-wolf from the pack who will bear him an Alpha pup in no time," I said to Tricksy before swallowing the last piece of snack that was inside my mouth.

"You are right, Ana, but what about if he finally recognizes the mate bond and comes searching for you, and maybe he finds you and apologizes for all his wrongdoing towards you? Will you forgive him and accept him back?" Tricksy asked me through the link, and immediately I smiled at her.

I know that she's asking me all these questions because, despite everything Darian did to us, she still views him as our mate, and if she had the possibility to stop me from running away from the castle, she would have done it, but unfortunately, she doesn't have such ability. At least she can try to make me reconsider my decision, and that's exactly what she's trying to do.

"You see Tricksy, I know that you aren't happy because we are running away from mate, but don't forget that I gave him more than enough time to recognize the mate bond that exists between the both of us, but he never did, and you also heard what the guards said: he was only exploiting us for his personal gains; mate doesn't love us, and I'm not sure that he is ever going to love someone after all he said that he doesn't do love, so please just do me this little favor and forget him. By so doing, you will be making things easier for the both of us and for my unborn pup," I said to her while massaging my stomach.

"Ok, Elena, I will try my best not to talk about him again," she said to me with a sad tone.

"Thanks a lot, Tricky. I think we should get some rest now; we still have a long day ahead of us tomorrow," I said to her.

"Okay, Elena, goodnight then," she said to me.

"Goodnight too, Tricksy, I said to her before blocking the link.

Afterwards, I brought out a pullover sweater and wore it on top of my gown in order to get warm a little bit because it was very cold in the cave.

With that, I placed my hands on one of the rocks that was behind me, and in no time, I dozed off while massaging my stomach.

I was awakened some hours later when I felt a cold metal touching my neck. At first, I thought that I was dreaming, but when the pressure of the metal pressing against my neck became strong, I immediately jerked up and saw two werewolves standing in front of me, and the sword of the second was what was pressing against my neck as he kept staring at me angrily.
