Chapter 6 :Chasing My Rejected Mate

Darian's POV

At first, I thought that I was dreaming when I opened the room and noticed that Elena wasn't in the room anymore. In order to ensure myself that I wasn't dreaming, I scrubbed my hand on my face twice, but when I lowered my hand, nothing changed. With my heart pounding heavily, I slowly approached her bed, and there I saw a piece of paper dropped on the bed. I don't know what was wrong with me, but as I took the piece of paper and started unfolding it, my hand kept on trembling like that of a child who had broken a vase and was trying to put it together despite the fact that he knew that it was impossible.

After unfolding the piece of paper, I closed my eyes for a few seconds before opening it to read what she wrote on the piece of paper.

"I know that when you read this, I will already be gone, gone to a place where you will never be able to find me, a place where our paths will never cross again. Right from the first day my step father brought me to your palace I had felt the mate bond that existed between the both of us but you never acknowledge it, I don't know if you did that intentionally in order to hurt me more just as you have done through out my stay in your palace or whether you refused to acknowledge it because just as you said you don't know how to show affection and you don't do love; but for whatever reason it was, it doesn't matter anymore because I have left your palace, and as I'm leaving, I'm talking with me anything that I felt for you and also the unborn child that is in my womb which is the only symbol of our union and I hope that one day the moon goddess will give you another mate who won't be a tool that you exploit in order to safeguard your position as Alpha of your pack and please I will really appreciate it if you don't come looking for me because you will never be able to find.

Yours dearly, Elena.

Immediately after I finished reading the letter, I felt some liquids streaming down my cheeks. When I turned and looked at my face in the mirror, I noticed that it was tears that were streaming down my cheeks, and without hesitating, I wiped them away. Deep down, I could feel Shadow, my wolf, whimpering in pain, and as usual, he didn't utter a single word to me; he always did that whenever he was annoyed with me, and it seems like he wasn't the only one annoyed with me; even the moon goddess was annoyed too, because once I finished reading the letter, it started raining heavily.

"Guards!!!" I screamed from the room, and immediately two guards ran inside.

"Where is my mate?" I asked them, my eyes boring into them with an icy glare.

"We don't know where she is, my lord; we have been in our post all this time, and we haven't seen her; she hasn't come out of the room since when you left," one of the guards replied while avoiding my gaze.

"You mean you have all been at your different posts since when I left?" I asked him while listening to his heartbeat in order to know if he's lying or telling the truth.

"Yes, my lord, we have all been in our different posts," he replied while stammering.

"Can you try saying that again?" I asked him with a low but intimidating tone that could send cold shivers down someone's spine.

"Ac-tu-a-lly, ac-tu-a-lly," he kept stammering when he noticed that I already knew that he was lying.

"Actually what?" I barked angrily, and immediately the both of them stiffened in fear.

"Try lying to me once again, and I swear I'm going to rip your head off your neck. Now tell me, where were the both of you when my mate left her room and escaped from the palace?" I asked him with an inquisitive look.

"We were outside discussing with Boris and the others," the second guard said to me with a trembling tone while avoiding my gaze.

"Go and call for me Boris and the others," I said to the other guard, who left immediately and came back some seconds later with Boris and the others.

"Boris, tell me, what were you guys discussing during my absence? I can see that the issue was very important to you guys, and that's why Jack and his acolyte left their posts to come and discuss it with you guys, and now my mate is nowhere to be found," I said to him. "Feel free to lie to me, Boris," I said to him with an ironic tone.

"We were discussing you, my lord," Boris said to me after some seconds of silence.

"Wow, so you guys were gossiping about your Alpha, probably discussing why he locks his mate up in her room and why he hasn't marked her, right?" I asked them, but they all remained silent while avoiding my gaze. Deep down, I knew that Elena probably overheard them discussing me using her as a tool, and she was probably the reason why she left.

"Well, I won't kill you people today; you should all thank the moon goddess that I'm not in a bad mood," I said to them, and immediately they took a glance at each other because it was unlike me. Normally,  I should have already pounced on them, tearing them apart with my claws and fangs, but I couldn't bring myself to do that; after all, they weren't the ones to blame; I was the one who mistreated her, not them.

"I decided to spare your lives, but that doesn't mean that you will go unpunished after gossiping about me and also being unable to stop my mate from escaping from the palace," I said to them.

"Go and get the horses ready; we are going to look for her in the rain, and we aren't coming back until we find her," I commanded them with a determined tone.
