LOGINViolet's POV
Rejecting me as his mate was not enough, was it? I asked myself as I dropped to the base of the tall oak tree in the middle of the woods. My energy was sapping after the long run away from the rogues that chased after me when they saw me walk into the woods. There was nowhere else I could turn. I had begged the Alpha to let me live with my father and not step into the pack anymore, but he believed there would always be a way for Ezekiel to reach out to me, and he disallowed that. Tears streamed down my face when I remembered how hesitant Ezekiel was when he was uttering those words. They still didn't change anything, though. I had been rejected and exiled from the pack. Where would I run to now? Who would I call upon? Would I continue to sleep at the base of the tree until a rogue finally caught up with me and ended my life here in the woods? The playboy’s scent captivated me and filled my nostrils back then in his room, and now it was gone from the air. I wasn't in his league and I never should have had hopes that I could become his mate. There are hopes that save, and then there are hopes that kill. It wouldn’t take a genius to tell me the kind of hope I clung to. My wolf, which was trying to stay alive, crashed down completely and I couldn't even send a mind message. It felt so exhausting and boring here in the woods, and deadly. If my mother were alive, she would either plead with the Alpha to make me remain in the pack or get banished together with me. But my father was nowhere in sight when all of that happened. I saw Owen trying to plead with some of the Alpha's men on my behalf, but he couldn't convince them. A part of me was happy that I was now finally away from him, his advances, and the tough nature of my father, but at the same time, the consequences were brutal. I felt the cold touches of the rain on my skin and I gazed up at the skies. Thunderstorm clouds rumbled and lightning struck as I shut my eyes while cold air blew over me. After the Alpha removed my name from the wolf tree, which contained all the names of the members of his pack, the surrounding wolves begged for me to have at least a backpack with me, and it took many minutes before the Alpha permitted that. I checked through the backpack, searching to see if there was any sweater in there to help with the cold, and I was close to giving up when I laid my hands on one. It was a black sweatshirt and it reeked of his scent. A tear slipped past my eyes as I pulled it up and inhaled the heavy scent on it. My wolf felt revived and I could feel my energy rise for that moment I kept inhaling it. It was as though the scent was the key to replaying the moments we shared together. I quickly put it on as I laid my head at the base of the tree. I wanted to have a good sleep, but I could wake up and find myself in the middle of many rogues. And so I decided to stay awake. While we had sex, he played a melodious song and I mastered all the lyrics during our heated moments. Everything clicked in my mind so quickly, and that was a testament to the strength of his scent. The song replayed in my mind and the chirping of the birds felt like they were singing along with me. It should remind me of him each time I felt that hollow space left in my chest. Many minutes later, it stopped raining and the weather normalized. I stared around in the dark, trying to illuminate the environment with my wolf's vision, but my wolf's night vision didn't come on. I brought the scent closer to my nostrils and the light was a little dull as it came on. That could only mean one thing , his scent on the sweatshirt was beginning to fade. I got up as I searched around for anywhere safe and close to have a good sleep. I could wake up the next day to think about how to go about my life, but I didn't find anywhere safe to stay. It was all tall trees, leaves, stumps, and voices in the distance. But since it was already late, I considered leaving the woods and finding somewhere else to spend the night. Maybe I could come across someone nice shortly before reaching my pack again. I knew I had to stay away as much as I could, because if I didn't, I would be killed on sight. The Alpha wasn't one who joked with orders. I watched my steps carefully as my wolf's eyes illuminated the dark path ahead of me. I heard low growls of the rogues that sounded like they were just coming into the woods and heading in my direction. I strapped the backpack to my back, knowing I would have to climb the trees as soon as I sighted the rogues. There was no way I could fight even one of them and win. My wolf was very weak and crushed, and it was only the strength of the scent that made my eyes able to illuminate the path ahead of me. A rogue whooshed past me all of a sudden and I gasped as I stepped back. My heart skipped many beats as I was torn between running back into the woods or continuing with my journey. I decided to move with the second option. And I was close to being out of the woods when I heard that loud thump on the ground. My nightmare was right in front of me. A very big rogue with black fur and an angry face. It must be here to tackle me. Maybe it knew me or maybe it didn't, but rogues really could make anyone their victim. I stepped back as it started walking slowly toward me. The steps it covered were so large that they could be five times more than mine. When I crashed onto the trees and tried to climb, it reached me and stepped its wide, hairy foot on mine, eliciting a scream from my lips. I was out of ideas on how to escape now. I knew this would happen eventually. I was weak, rejected, and banished with nowhere to go but the woods. How could I have possibly avoided being here? Soft growls erupted from its lips as its big eyes trailed down on me. My heartbeat increased as I felt small in front of it. It could stick its claws into my heart easily and that could be the end of me. And that was exactly what it was trying to do. I felt its claws slicing through my flesh as I fought hard to be free from the grip. A scream tore from my lips as I tried to grab any sharp object to hit it with, but I saw none. I even pretended to be a witch and cast spells, but it didn't back down. Blood flowed to my navel and I screamed once again, which echoed through the woods. In an instant, I saw its claws leave my chest as its whole body went down before me. I gasped and my eyes remained staring, my palms on the injured part of my chest, and after it dropped, it revealed the face of my savior. It was a woman. She looked ordinary in her simple clothes, but there was something quiet and strange about her presence that set her apart. She held out a hand to me and I received it quickly. Where was my savior taking me now?Violet's POV"It's been two days since Ezekiel left the pack. I'm worried sick about his whereabouts." Diane complained, dropping off to the seat across from me. "Can you place the order for your wolves to find him?""Do you have any information on who was with him the last time you saw him in the pack?" I asked, detailing her answers."I was the one who asked him to get the skins of the deadliest of the rogues in the woods if he would like to survive the harshness of the new leadership. I didn't know he would take my words so seriously." Diane let out a deep breath as she complained."Are you aware that he belongs to the pack?" I asked, and repeated the question because I didn't receive a response."I know. He told me that he's a slave and shouldn't leave the pack for any reason, but he had to. I threatened him, and now, we need him to complete the spells." Diane concluded."How?""Because that's the requirement." She shrugged an arm as she shot back. "We need the blood of a special
Ezekiel's POVMy eyes fluttered open as I stared at the blue skies. It was a sunny afternoon and I was somewhere in the woods, in between life and death, as deep groans erupted from a close range.I jerked back to my feet, my eyes wandering around the woods, checking for the possible way out of here. I ran as fast as my legs could take when I spotted two distinct red eyes on a large rogue. I didn't know what else they did to my body or to my wolf. Ezekiel's POVIt was the dead of the night. And I was alone in the woods, searching for the deadliest of the rogues. I needed to take them down to cut off their skins so I would survive in the new host pack of the region."Who are you?" Someone cocked a gun as I quickly turned towards the sound. I didn't see the face but the voice was crystal clear."I'm...I promise, I'm not here to hurt anyone." I said, gritting my teeth. "I just need to talk to my friend. He lives inside here. He's a hunter, just like you.""Who says I'm a hunter?" He replied boldly, firing a shot into the clouds. "Tell me the name of your hunter friend and I'll spare you.""I don't know his name. I promise you I'm not lying. It's a new friend and we didn't know each other's names. You can follow me to the spot where I'll talk to him. Please don't harm me. I'm only human." I lied to him.I saw the gun dropping and relief washed through me. "Thank you, man. I truly appreciate.""What exactly is a man looking for, dee
Ezekiel's POV"Got a new apartment? I can keep my head in there, you know." I said to Marianna. "If not, then I'm not leaving here. And no spell will make me leave.""We need to kick these human beings out of the castle, but they're being helped by witches. I have been assigned to perform a counterattack spell, but that would require your absence. Your wolf is cursed and polluted and you can only get redemption from the goddess. Leave in peace or dark magic will neutralize your existence.""Are you threatening me?""Yes I am," Diane shot back." I was paid to get this done. You have ten minutes to decide what happens. You can keep living in the pack but without a purpose. Magic will neutralize every interesting aspect of your life. Ready?""I need to talk to Violet. She has to know that something as stupid as this is going on in her room in the host pack." I said, getting up to go. They stepped out of my way, giving me room to approach the door.I tried to open it but it didn't budge.
Ezekiel's POV"You have the chance to work with me because of Isabel. Don't misuse this chance, Ezekiel." Violet had said to me last night. I was now her internal guard, now that my wolf has healed me already. My role was to stay inside her official room, make it clean always, making sure no one would get inside without her knowledge. That was much easier, and the pay was robust too. Perhaps by the end of six months I would gather enough money to purchase one of the packs under them, the same pack I'd once ruled. The doorbell rang and I got up to check who was there. Just as I guessed, it was Simon. He definitely believed she wasn't active enough to be in her office, so he came down to her room."She is not inside. I think you can check the office or the clinic." I said to his face. He rolled his eyes disgustingly at me before leaving. As soon as he did, a wave of pleasant scent wafted into my nostrils. The scent was familiar, but I couldn't figure out who owned it. I opened the door
