LOGINISADORA’S POV
My eyes read the name on the bottom of that old paper, and my whole world flipped upside down.
It was my own full name printed next to Rosalind’s name under the exact same birth record.
I looked up at the stage where Rosalind stood talking into the microphone, and a cold burn spread inside my chest.
"I cannot stay quiet anymore," I declared, pulling my hand out of my coat pocket with the unfolded paper.
Rafael reached for my elbow to hold me back, but I pushed his arm away without looking at him.
I made up my mind right then to put an end to all their lies in front of everyone.
I walked straight toward the main stage, keeping my eyes fixed on the laptop connected to the big projector.
"Isadora, stop this right now," Rafael warned, jogging up two steps behind me as the crowd turned to watch us.
"Stay out of my way," I said, stepping past a security guard before he could put his hands on me.
I reached the technical table, unplugged the company slides, and placed my paper on the scanner bed.
The bright light scanned the paper, and the entire birth registry flashed across the massive screen above the stage.
The identical DNA profiles and the stolen baby records showed up in giant letters for every single guest to see.
A sudden gasps broke out across the room, as people stood up from their chairs to get a closer look.
Rosalind turned around to look at the screen, and her face went completely pale in an instant.
"What is the meaning of this fake document?" Everett shouted, stepping toward me with her fists balled at her sides.
"It is not fake, and you know it," I stated, pointing my finger directly at her face.
I stood my ground because I was done letting these people treat me like a fool.
Rosalind grabbed the microphone from the stand, and her hands shook so hard she almost dropped it.
"Turn that screen off right now!" Rosalind screamed, completely losing her calm attitude.
Nobody moved to help her, and the crowd started whispering loudly as they read the DNA match.
Rosalind stared at me with pure hatred, and her controlled image fell apart completely right on stage.
"You were supposed to be the dead one, Isadora!" Rosalind yelled into the live microphone.
Her voice boomed through every speaker in the hall, confirming to everyone that we were identical twins separated at birth.
The entire room went completely silent as her words hung in the air.
I stared at her in shock, feeling my knees go weak as the truth hit me like a solid wall.
She was my twin sister, and my whole life had been built on a giant lie meant to hide me away.
Rosalind realized what she just confessed to the whole room, and she dropped the microphone onto the floor.
I turned around slowly to look at Rafael, waiting for him to tell me that none of this made sense.
He stood at the bottom of the stage stairs, looking down at his shoes with a dark expression on his face.
"Did you know about this, Rafael?" I asked, taking a slow step down toward him as my heart felt completely broken, but I needed to hear his answer from his own mouth.
Rafael raised his head, looked me in the eyes, and took a deep breath.
"I knew Rosalind was your twin sister before I ever signed our marriage contract," Rafael confessed, his voice clear enough for the nearby tables to hear.
I stopped on the stairs, feeling like the ground beneath my feet had just collapsed entirely.
He had known the truth from the very beginning, and he had used me as a pawn in his game all along.
"You lied to me every single day," I whispered, pulling back when he tried to step closer to me.
"I did it to protect you from Everett and Rosalind," Rafael claimed, reaching his hand out toward me again.
"Do not touch me," I spat out, backing away until my heel hit the edge of the stage.
I looked around the room at the crowd of strangers, the fake sister who wished I was dead, and the man who lied to my face.
Every word Rafael had ever said to me turned into trash in my mind right then.
I decided in that second that I could never trust a single person in this room ever again.
I turned away from Rafael, ran down the side steps, and pushed my way through the stunned crowd toward the exit doors.
"Isadora, wait for me!" Rafael yelled behind me, his heavy footsteps following close behind.
I did not stop or look back as I pushed through the front glass doors into the cold night air.
My mind was completely ruined, but my feet kept moving as fast as they could away from Rafael.
I reached the edge of the dark street, trying to pull my car keys out of my bag with shaking fingers.
Then, a black car pulled up right beside the curb with its back door swinging wide open before I could even turn around.
A heavy hand grabbed my arm from inside the dark vehicle, and I realized too late that I was not getting away.
ISADORA’S POVRafael grabbed my waist on the dark balcony and kissed me until my legs could not hold my weight anymore. We fell asleep holding each other tight, ready to face the war that was coming the next day. When I woke up at six o'clock in the morning, the bright sunlight was coming through the big window, and the room was very quiet.I turned my head to look for Rafael, but his side of the bed was empty, and his shoes were gone from the floor.I sat up on the bed quickly, wrapping the sheet around my body as fear returned to my chest and I stood up and walked toward the bathroom, but the door was wide open, and nobody was inside.I walked over to the small wooden table near the door, and I saw a white paper lying right beside my purse.I picked up the white paper with my shaking hands and read the words written in big black ink.It was a handwritten note from my sister Rosalind.I stepped out of our car outside the big auction house in Marbella. Valentina had invited all the r
ISADORA’S POVRafael stood in front of me with his mouth completely shut, refusing to tell me the truth about the secret contract that gave my sister power over his life.I looked at the small gold ring sitting in my open palm, and the deep pain in my chest turned into hot anger as I stepped toward the big window and threw the ring out into the darkness with all the strength in my right arm. The small gold band vanished into the night, and my heart felt like it was breaking into a thousand small pieces. I turned back to face Rafael, wiping my wet face with the back of my hand so he would not see me cry anymore."You are a coward, Rafael," I said, pointing my finger at his pale face as my legs trembled under my weight.Rafael then took a fast step toward me and grabbed both of my hands in his warm palms. "I am not a coward, Isadora," he said, holding my fingers tight while his eyes filled with tears. "I am keeping quiet because I am trying to save your life and your family from total
ISADORA’S POv"You think that simple gold ring on your finger makes you a real wife, Isadora?" Rosalind spat, as she clapped her hands together with a dry laugh that sent cold fear straight down my spine.I pulled my hand back slowly against my stomach, and my skin felt ice cold while my sister took two heavy steps closer to where I sat."I sold those shares to Valentina because you deserve to lose every single thing you own," Rosalind said, as she pointed her fingers straight at my me while her eyes burned with dark hatred."You have always been weak and stupid, and you think Rafael truly wants you for who you are," she continued, and she looked down at my face with total disgust. My throat closed up tightly, and tears pooled under my eyelids while her cruel words tore through my remaining confidence.I looked up at Rafael because I wanted him to step in and shut her mouth, but he stood completely still beside the bed with his hands clenched into tight fists."Get out of our room rig
ISADORA’S POVMy father Peter stood in the middle of the big room with a wide smile on his face as he held the signed paper high in the air and looked at Rafael and me like he had won a grand prize. Valentina stepped closer to Rafael with her head held up, expecting him to smile and accept the deal she made with my sister."Now we own this estate together, Rafael," Valentina said, taking a step toward him as my stomach turned upside down with fear.Rafael did not look at the paper in my father's hand, and he did not smile at Valentina at all either. He took my hand, stepped forward, and placed himself between Valentina and me."I will never do any business with you, Valentina," Rafael said, looking directly into her eyes as my chest expanded with sudden relief.Valentina stopped moving, and the smile on her face disappeared completely."What are you talking about, Rafael?" she asked, reaching out her hand to touch his arm as my mouth grew dry. "I did this for us so we can control eve
ISADORA’S POVThe text message from Valentina showed a photo of Rafael sleeping in her bed while I was lying alone in his apartment.I dropped his phone onto the mattress because my hands were shaking so much, and I could not breathe properly. My mind was spinning with terrible thoughts as I looked at the dark screen lying on the sheets. I gave him my body and my heart last night, but he still went back to his ex-fiancée the moment I closed my eyes. So much pain cut through my chest so deep that I had to sit on the floor for a few minutes just to hold my knees together.I told myself that I would not stay in his house to cry like a weak person. I stood up immediately, put on my clothes quickly, and grabbed my small bag from the table as I left his apartment without making any noise, and I entered my car to drive down to our family estate in Segovia. The rain was falling heavily from the sky, washing over my front glass as I drove fast on the dark road with my eyes full of tears, but
ISADORA’S POVI opened my eyes at dawn and felt the cold sheet beside me where Rafael was supposed to be sleeping. It all started when I was so angry after Valentina stood on that stage in Madrid and told everyone about the joint takeover of my family estate. Then immediately after the gala night, I drove straight to Rafael’s penthouse apartment without waiting for him to explain anything at the gala. I let myself inside the big door using my old code, and I stood in the middle of his sitting room waiting for him to arrive. When Rafael walked inside the apartment and closed the door, I did not waste any time at all as I confronted him immediately."Give me the private keys to my family estate right now," I said, stepping directly into his path as my hands shook with anger.Rafael pulled off his black suit jacket and threw it onto the couch. "I am not giving you any keys tonight, Isadora," he said, stepping toward me as my breath hitched in my throat."You lied to me again," I said, po
