Aella POV

“I can’t shift, Sol,” I whispered.

The words tasted like failure.

“I can fight. I can use my power. But I can’t shift.”

Silence.

“I feel…” I swallowed. “…limited.”

Vulnerable.

The word refused to leave my mouth.

“And they’re hiding something,” I added, finally turning to look at him. “You saw it too.”

His expression didn’t change.

Which—

Was answer enough.

My heart dropped.

“What is it?” I asked.

He didn’t respond immediately.

And that hurt more than anything.

Because

  • Bankrupting the Alpha: Crowned by the Dragon King   Magical existential crisis

Chapter — The Mark of the SanctuaryAella POV“Get in line,” Sol said calmly. The authority in his voice made everyone actually obey immediately.Marcus moved first, guiding Beatriz forward while Pamela remained behind him, still looking equal parts nervous and fascinated by everything happening around her.The clearing had changed again. The sanctuary itself seemed alert now, awake in a way it had not been before. The flowers shimmered brighter, the air carried visible traces of light drifting lazily around us, and the portal behind me pulsed steadily with silver-blue energy.Sol stood at the center of it all.Steady.Grounded.Powerful.He looked toward Beatriz first.“You’re first.”Beatriz narrowed her eyes slightly. “I’m beginning to question every decision that led me here.”Chaos grinned immediately. “That means you’re adapting wonderfully.”She ignored him completely and stepped in front of Sol.To my surprise, Sol gently took both her hands in his.The moment they touched—Po

Aella POVChaos clasped his hands together, looking far too entertained by the entire situation.“Well,” he said brightly, “normally this would involve ancient rituals, blood offerings, sacred vows, and enough dramatic chanting to satisfy even me.”Pamela visibly paled.Chaos grinned wider.“But since the sanctuary has not had active monarchs in centuries…” He gestured lazily toward Sol and me. “You two have to determine a new method of swearing them in.”Marcus blinked slowly.“So you’re telling me there’s no actual procedure?”“There was a procedure,” Order corrected calmly. “It simply no longer applies.”“That sounds deeply unsafe,” Pamela muttered.I ignored them and focused instead on what my essence had told me earlier.Recognition.Binding.A fragment of power.I inhaled slowly before stepping forward.“I know how to do it,” I said quietly.Everyone looked at me.“I’ll infuse a small amount of my Monarch power into them,” I explained. “Not enough to truly alter them, more like…

  • Bankrupting the Alpha: Crowned by the Dragon King   The fun part

Aella POVThe bond pulsed sharply.Closer.My breath caught as the silver-blue portal shimmered violently for a moment before stabilizing once more. I could feel Sol approaching through the connection now, steady and determined, carrying multiple presences with him. Then—The portal opened fully.Sol stepped through first. And behind him—Beatriz.Pamela.Marcus.The moment Pamela crossed the threshold into the clearing, she froze. Her eyes landed directly on me.Or more specifically—On my stomach. My pregnancy belly was no longer small enough to hide beneath flowing fabric. The sanctuary had accelerated the babies’ growth, and even though I had not gained much weight elsewhere, the curve of my stomach was unmistakable now.Pamela gasped softly, her hand flying to her mouth.“Oh my God…”Emotion flooded through the bond instantly as Sol moved closer to me, instinctively positioning himself at my side.Marcus looked equally stunned, though far quieter about it.Beatriz, however—Beatr

  • Bankrupting the Alpha: Crowned by the Dragon King   The Gate Reopens

Aella POVI felt the bond stretch the moment Sol stepped through the portal. Not painfully. Not dangerously. But undeniably. The connection between us pulled taut like a living thread, extending through the silver-blue doorway as he crossed back into the castle. I could still feel him—his heartbeat, the cold flame within him, the steady determination radiating through the bond—but there was distance now.Real distance. And yet—The connection did not weaken. If anything, it became clearer.More deliberate.Like we were finally using something that had always existed between us.The portal shimmered before me, silver and blue light intertwining with the iridescent darkness flowing from my heart. The clearing around us glowed softly in response, the jeweled flowers trembling faintly as power spread through the sanctuary itself. My essence watched the portal carefully before turning toward me.“The sanctuary is changing,” she said softly.I frowned slightly. “Because of us?”She nodded.

  • Bankrupting the Alpha: Crowned by the Dragon King   Opening the Gate

Aella POVI turned toward my essence, the urgency returning all at once now that Sol was finally here with me.“How do we do this?” I asked. “Because we need to grant access right now.”The moment the words left my mouth, both essences exchanged a look. Not worried.Knowing.My essence stepped forward first, the shimmering air around her shifting softly with every movement.“The sanctuary cannot be reached blindly,” she explained. “Not even now.”I frowned slightly.“Then how do we bring someone here?”“You anchor them.”The answer came from Sol’s essence.I turned toward him.“To open the sanctuary to another person,” he continued calmly, “one of you must remain connected to it while the other walks the outside world.”Understanding clicked immediately. My gaze snapped toward Sol.“No.”His expression shifted instantly.“Aella—”“You just got here.”“And Beatriz is needed now.”The words landed heavily between us.Because he was right.I hated that he was right. The babies shifted fa

  • Bankrupting the Alpha: Crowned by the Dragon King   The King Beside Me

Aella POVSol did it.The realization settled over me slowly, almost too large to fully grasp at first. He had actually done it.Not because someone guided him there. Not because the castle opened the way for him.Not because I pulled him through the bond.He found his own path. And standing there now, in the middle of that glittering clearing, I could feel the difference.Something about him had changed. Not dramatically. Not in a way the eye would immediately notice. But I felt it.In the way the air moved around him.In the calmness radiating from his body.In the steadiness of his power. His aura had changed. Before, Sol’s presence had always felt warm, intense, burning like fire barely contained beneath skin and bone. Even when calm, there had always been heat beneath the surface, something restless, something constantly pushing forward. Now—Now there was balance. The cold blue and silver power flowing through him softened the flames without extinguishing them. The fire remained

Maxwell was gone. Truly gone. For a flickering second, a memory I had tried to bury surfaced. I remembered his laughter as a pup, high and bright. I remembered him rolling around in the dirt with Caleb and Jax, four children making a mess of the world. He used to help me in ways no one else dared,

The announcement arrived via a royal scroll at breakfast: a Medieval Masquerade Gala. Attendance was mandatory for all towers. The arena was a theater of carnage. Maxwell stood on the sands, his chest heaving, his wolf pushing so hard against his skin that his eyes were a constant, unstable amber. Sol stood opposite him, calm and immovable. Before the first blow was struck, Pamela stepped onto the lower ridge of the stand
