Scarlett's pov

He hit the brakes so hard that the car screeched to a halt on the street. It was a relief that it was late and the road was deserted. Otherwise, the vehicle would have hit someone. Once the car had come to a stop, he turned to look directly at me, a deep frown etched on his face.

"What do you mean there aren't any sparks? Did you feel the sparks the first day?" He seemed to be genuinely confused.

I nodded my head. "Yes, dad. But they were very faint. And now, they are gone. It's as if the bond never existed."

He studied my face for a long time before finally giving his head a little nod to show that he understood what I told him. "I see."

Heaving a breath, he clutched the steering wheel and once again started to drive towards the packhouse which was just a few feet away. Though he didn't retort against me, I could clearly see that he was still unsure.
