Denise looked at that man wide eyed. As she watched, Fey run and hugged him."Uncle, you are bad. Why did you tell your secretary not to let us in?" She complained while pouting and the man patted her back with a caring expresion about his face."It's not that baby. Why would I tell her not to let in my favourite niece? It's just that I'm so busy and wanted to catch up with some work," he said as he looked at Denise.Denise felt her legs give and she saw the office spin. She then started free falling and before she could hit the ground, the man was there to cushion her fall with his large arms. Since he was tall, he had reached her before Alex, who had gone to the dispenser to get water, could reach her."Is she sick?" He asked looking at his sister."No, as far as I know, she has been well since we met and hasn't shown any signs of being in any kind of discomfort. I haven't seen anything odd," Alex answered as she touched D's forehead."No fever, she seems okay," she said and the man
Denise woke up and stretched herself. She felt so well rested. She hadn't been this well rested in a long, loooong, time. In fact, she couldn't even remember ever feeling this well rested in her whole life. She then remembered that she had seen Ansel Winston. She laughed because clearly, it had been a dream. She chuckled again and... But wait.. This bed seems to be so soft compared to the hard ground where she sleeps."What happened yesterday? I came from the auditions, met Fey and.. Oooooooh, fuck me!"Denise opened her eyes and sat up with a start. She looked at herself and her clothes had been changed. She was wearing a white sleeping gown that was oh, so warm and soft. And the bed? The bed was huge. She looked like one small fish in a white ocean. These bed sheets and covers screamed 'expensive and soft'. The room was big. Bigger than even her parents', sorry uncle's, room back in the Ashford mansion. It didn't look odd even though it had minimal decorations. Just a flower vase at
She opened the door slowly, a small gap enough to peep. She peeped to see if anyone was on the other side. When she didn't see anyone, she smiled and opened it very very slowly and when she had opened it a big enough gap where she could fit, she placed her foot outside the door and then..."Why are you walking shoeless? Wear your shoes, the floor is usually very cold and we don't want you getting sick now, do we?" Ansel talked from inside the room and that gave Denise a big scare that she was startled and she turned abruptly and in doing that, she twisted her legs together and she fell. She would have fallen on her butt but a big strong arm was there to give her support and prevent her from embarrassing herself, yet again. "Why are you always falling? Is it a hobby, maybe?" Ansel asked but instead of irritation, his voice carried a hint of teasing.Denise wished that the ground could just open and swallow her to save her from the shame. "Big boss, I don't usually fall. It's you who's
Denise shot out of that building like it was on fire. She literally ran. She didn't care of what people would say or even if people looked at her. All she wanted was to get as far away as possible from Ansel Winston. She sighed in relief when she was no longer in the downtown part of the CBD and she walked quicklytowards the bust stop so that she could take a bus to Sava slums. After she got into her house, she was relieved as she knew, or should we say thought? As she thought that Ansel could never get to her. She promised herself that the next time she sees him, she would be a famous actress who had made a name for herself. Denise had a lot of hope for her future and a lot of that was so that she could prove to herself that she could do it and also prove to the Ashfords that she wasn't that feeble creature they always thought she was.She sat on her sleeping mat and started going through the events of yesterday with a smile.****At Imperial Corporation"Did you see where she went
Using the little money D had made the previous week, she woke up early the next day and went to the flea market. She needed to buy two things: 1 A few more presentable dresses and 2. Second hand books on and about acting. She got a few tops and dresses for around five hundred dahlias and one book from the second hand book stalls entitled: A to Z of Creating a Character. She decided that since she didn't have money for now to help her get into any kind of a performing arts school, then all she could do was teach herself. Good thing was that she was a fast learner and was sure that she could do it.She spent the next two days in her house teaching herself and practicing what she was reading. She learnt all the emotions and how to show them, how to cry at the snap of a finger, how to laugh as a sophisticated lady, how to be a seductress, a good housewife, a serious boss lady, a thief, a nun, an abandoned and homeless woman a bitch and all that. She acted out any character she saw descri
At the stipulated date and time, Denise was at the Diamond Studios eager to start her work. What she liked most was that they had been told that there would be an allowance for the two weeks of the workshop. Imagine that! An allowance for being taught how to become a good actress! It was like hitting the jackpot.Denise loved money. She knew that money made the world turn. She knew that if she wanted to be powerful enough and get people's respect (and top on this list were the Ashtons), she had to have money. She therefore was thrilled because this would be the first ever money she would earn doing what she loved: acting. After the time they had been given to be there was up, they were asked to board a bus. It had the familiar studio's logo and name. Others were already there and they were making conversation but Denise being Denise, didn't know how to make friends or small talk and she closed her eyes and started going through all she had learnt in the past several days. She wanted t
The next few days were 'adventurous' to say the least for Denise. She loved the way the company took care of them from food to sleeping arrangements, not talking about the way they were taught. Each day was filled with activities like morning exercises: they were to become actors and actresses and so had to keep fit, breakfast, then they would be taught how to behave during a shooting like approaching cameras from all angles, how to appear natural when acting, how to relate to each other and the crew and such. Then there would be that session where they would meet with fellow actors and actresses and create rapport so as to make it easier on them when the real acting starts, they also met the rest of the crew and a ton of other activities. No day was boring. The movie, 'Mechanics' had about thirty or so characters but the main were six. These consisted of the leader - a male and he was the brains of the team, Laura - the part Denise was to act - the thief, another lady - a grifter, a
We Are Not ThievesFreya seemed really worried and those who were not in on the secret, all felt bad for her. "I hope you find it. It's not easy losing a memento that you hold dear," one boy consoled and Denise thought if only you knew. She however didn't show it on her face. She kept a straight face as if she didn't know what was happening. They helped to look for it under the seats and everywhere Freya could have gone but it was nowhere to be found. Freya really looked sad and tears wouldn't stop falling."I will really feel guilty if something my grandma left me gets lost. And I don't even k kw what to tell my parents. They will kill me if I lost it," she said amidst sniffs and cries. Ooooh, poor Freya!"When did you say you last see it?" one of her minions asked and by now, she was shedding tears too for her friend."This one will make a very good actress. Too bad she was given a strong woman lead and not a weak woman. A weak woman would have fit her well," Denise thought with
