“Umm we were out to get some air.” I lied, instantly regretting why I spoke up.
“Oooh why would only the two of you leave the party to get some fresh air?” Nick mocked, wriggling his eyebrows. That prick! He’s gonna get it! I rolled my eyes.
“Well, we had something to discuss. And it’s definitely none of your business!” I gritted my teeth. The betrayal running fresh on my mind again, making me dizzy all over again.
“Hold your horses, Aivy Daivy! No need to get so worked up.” Nick responded, a little scared at my reaction.
I shrugged it off and glared at Kevin once more.
Dad had a grim look on his face, but he gave me a small smile when he noticed I was looking at him. And mom pressed her lips together, so I simply nodded my head reassuring her that everything was fine.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping right by my window. Apart from that, something had been tickling me around my arms. I groaned and opened my eyes slightly to see a baby spider running around my arm. I grunted. I would’ve been menaced by it a couple of days ago. But, I didn’t find it strange and disgusting anymore. I was used to watching it crawl down on its web and wander around our house. It still freaked the hell out of Nick though. He hated how it tickled every time it landed on his arms.I waited till the little spider walked away from my arm and webbed its way down and snuggled back in my bed, holding my blanket closer, and buried my head in my pillow. “Winter is coming.” I chanted in a barely audible mumble. “Nick! Cherry! Come over for some snacks!” Mom shouted, grilling the chickens and placing the already prepared ones on the melamine plates. We often served savoury chickens during family picnics. We’d always been a huge fan of mom’s recipe. It’s amazing how she made it so juicy and tender every time. I opened the homemade barbecue sauce and poured it on all of the plates placed on the table.“Smells good!” Nick exclaimed and reached for a plate. “Yum! It’s funny how sometimes you’re strangely convinced to do things you thought you’d never do in life.
