14. Playground
I rushed toward Nana who now laid still on the cold dirty playground. My heart beat faster than I thought it could ever beat. I was scared. I was panicking really badly. My Nana should be okay. I know she is okay. She has to be okay!
I grabbed her shoulders and wrapped my arms around her.
“Nana! Nana! Are you alright? Nana!” I yelled, tears brimming on my eyes.
Did she fall sick again? She must’ve not come here! I should’ve told Jen to look after her. How could I be so silly and selfish?

It started freezing as the moon shone up above in the sky. I quickly swam towards the deck. I got on my feet and my clothes, including me sneakers, duh, were all soaked up and dripped. The next morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping right by my window. Apart from that, something had been tickling me around my arms. I groaned and opened my eyes slightly to see a baby spider running around my arm. I grunted. I would’ve been menaced by it a couple of days ago. But, I didn’t find it strange and disgusting anymore. I was used to watching it crawl down on its web and wander around our house. It still freaked the hell out of Nick though. He hated how it tickled every time it landed on his arms.I waited till the little spider walked away from my arm and webbed its way down and snuggled back in my bed, holding my blanket closer, and buried my head in my pillow. “Winter is coming.” I chanted in a barely audible mumble. “Nick! Cherry! Come over for some snacks!” Mom shouted, grilling the chickens and placing the already prepared ones on the melamine plates. We often served savoury chickens during family picnics. We’d always been a huge fan of mom’s recipe. It’s amazing how she made it so juicy and tender every time. I opened the homemade barbecue sauce and poured it on all of the plates placed on the table.“Smells good!” Nick exclaimed and reached for a plate. “Yum!
