Elsa’s POV

The stone floors gleamed beneath my raw hands, though no one would thank me for it. My body ached, my stomach hollow and growling, but I dared not pause. Crystal’s words from earlier echoed mercilessly in my head:

“If she doesn’t scrub every inch of the palace clean, she doesn’t eat today. And if she’s not finished by night, you will pay, too.”

She hadn’t even addressed me directly. She’d said it to the high maid, her tone light, as if discussing weather rather than my survival.

The high maid, a woman who had long since learned to bend beneath Crystal’s cruelty, simply nodded. “Yes, my lady.” Then she turned to me with weary eyes and said, “You heard her. Don’t expect supper.”

So here I was, on my knees, hands raw from scrubbing floors that already shone, knowing that no matter how much I cleaned, Crystal would find fault. That was her way.

By mid afternoon, sweat drenched my back, dripping into my eyes, stinging the skin where bruises from the last beating still lingered. Isa stirred inside me, restless, growling low.

This is beneath us, she hissed. We’re not slaves. We’re not cattle to starve.

I gritted my teeth, whispering under my breath so no one else would hear. “We survive. That’s all that matters.”

But even as I said it, my knees shook, and the ache in my empty stomach threatened to buckle me.

Lila slipped into the corridor, glancing nervously over her shoulder. “Elsa,” she whispered urgently, crouching beside me. “Here.” She tried to press a piece of bread into my hand.

I froze, staring at it. My mouth watered at the smell, but before I could take it, the high maid’s voice snapped from the shadows.

“Lila!”

Lila yanked her hand back, face paling. “I…”

The high maid strode forward, eyes sharp. “Do you want punishment to fall on you, too? You know Lady Crystal’s orders.”

Lila’s hands trembled. She shook her head quickly, hiding the bread in her apron pocket.

The high maid turned her gaze on me, her tone softer but edged with resignation. “Keep working, Elsa. Don’t drag others down with you.”

Then she walked off, leaving silence in her wake.

“I’m sorry,” Lila whispered, tears pooling in her eyes.

I forced a small smile, though my stomach twisted painfully. “Don’t be. You’d only suffer, too. I can handle this.”

But even as I said it, the ache of hunger gnawed at me, sharp and merciless.

By evening, the palace glowed with candlelight, and laughter drifted from the dining hall. The pack feasted while I scrubbed alone in the corridor outside, each sound of clinking cutlery like a dagger in my chest.

I could almost smell the roasted meat, the fresh bread, the rich stew. My stomach growled loudly, echoing off the stone walls. I clenched my fists, scrubbing harder, until my knuckles bled.

This isn’t living, Isa snarled. This is torment.

But what choice did I have? If I faltered, Lila would pay. I couldn’t let that happen.

At some point, the door to the dining hall creaked open. A pair of warriors stepped out, still laughing from whatever jest had been told at the table. They stopped when they saw me kneeling there, rag in hand.

One smirked. “Look at her. Scrubbing floors while we eat like kings.”

The other chuckled. “Maybe we should drop our scraps for her. Like feeding a stray dog.”

Heat rushed to my cheeks, but I kept my gaze down, scrubbing harder.

The first warrior leaned closer, his voice mocking. “Tell me, Elsa, how does it feel to be rejected by your Alpha? To be replaced so easily?”

The rag slipped in my hand. I froze.

They laughed harder, one tossing a chicken bone onto the floor beside me. “Here. A treat for the mutt.”

My wolf howled in rage inside me, but I forced myself not to move, not to give them satisfaction. I picked up the bone, not to eat it but to toss it into the bucket, then returned to scrubbing as though their taunts meant nothing.

But inside, I was burning.

Hours dragged on. The corridors emptied as the pack retired for the night, but I remained, my body a shell of exhaustion. My scarf had slipped, revealing the fading bruise on my cheek. My hands were blistered, my stomach so hollow I felt dizzy.

At last, the high maid returned, her expression tired. “Enough for today,” she said quietly.

I blinked up at her, swaying on my knees. “But… Crystal said—”

“I’ll tell her you worked until dawn if I have to,” she cut me off sharply. Then, her voice softened. “Go rest, Elsa. You’ll need your strength.”

I stumbled back to the servants’ quarters, barely able to walk. Lila jumped up when she saw me, rushing to steady me.

“You’re freezing,” she whispered, pressing a blanket around my shoulders. She pulled the bread from earlier from her pocket, thrusting it into my hands before I could protest. “Eat. Please.”

I stared at it, torn. If Crystal found out….

But Lila’s eyes brimmed with desperation. “Don’t let her win, Elsa. Don’t let her break you like this.”

My chest tightened. Slowly, I took a bite. The bread was stale, rough against my tongue, but it was the sweetest thing I’d tasted in months.

Tears burned my eyes, but I swallowed them down with the bread.

That night, as I lay shivering under the thin blanket, I stared at the ceiling, hunger still gnawing but dulled by the meager bread.

Crystal wanted me weak. She wanted me starved, broken, compliant.

But each cruelty only carved her image deeper into my mind. Each humiliation etched another promise in my heart.

If you want revenge, survive. If you want freedom, fight.

The stranger’s words came back again, steady as a heartbeat.

I would survive this hunger. I would survive Crystal’s cruelty, Caleb’s betrayal, the pack’s mockery.

  • Broken Luna Rise Back   Sisters of the Heart

Elsa’s POVThe knock was soft, but it pulled me from my restless sleep like thunder.I blinked against the dim morning light, the silken canopy above me unfamiliar even now. My heart stuttered in my chest. It couldn’t be Dylan—if it were, I would have already felt his presence, the heavy command of his aura pressing against my wolf.I sat up quickly, clutching the edges of my robe and tying it around my waist. My bare feet sank into the thick carpet as I moved toward the living room. The knock came again quieter, hesitant.I pulled open the door. And my world stopped.Standing there, wide-eyed, trembling, was Lila.I froze, my throat closing, convinced I was dreaming. My hand shot up to my face, wiping at my eyes, desperate to clear the illusion. But she didn’t vanish. She was real. And before I could speak, she threw herself forward and wrapped me in her arms. Her familiar scent warm, earthy, threaded with lavender hit me all at once, and my knees buckled. My arms wrapped around her

  • Broken Luna Rise Back   The Alpha’s Watch

Dylan’s POVThe night was too quiet.I’ve learned over the years that quiet doesn’t mean peace….it means danger. It’s the breath before the strike, the pause before the knife comes down. A pack’s silence was never empty. It was heavy, charged, waiting.I stood on the balcony outside my chambers, hands resting on the stone rail as I looked down at the courtyard. Torches burned low, their flames bending with the night breeze. Guards patrolled in pairs, their boots clicking against the stones, their movements sharp and disciplined. My pack always moved with precision. That was how I kept them strong. That was why no other Alpha dared test me.And yet, I could feel it like a draft seeping through cracks in the walls. The air wasn’t clean. Whispers were spreading, like insects burrowing beneath the skin.I didn’t need to hear the words to know where they came from.Veronica.My jaw tightened. She hadn’t approached me directly since Elsa arrived, and that alone told me everything I needed t

  • Broken Luna Rise Back   The Mistress’s Fury

Author’s POVThe maid’s words echoed in Veronica’s mind like a cruel bell: “She sat beside Lady Selene. The Lady held her hand. Even Neris likes her.”Veronica’s fingers dug into the silk of her gown as she paced her room. The rich fabric that once made her feel like a queen now felt suffocating. How could this be happening? She had spent years weaving herself into Dylan’s life years of smiles, whispered promises, and stolen nights. She had endured his coldness when he grew distant, clung to the warmth when he allowed her close again, and convinced herself that in time, he would see that no one else could stand at his side the way she could. But now…now some little slip of a girl had walked in from nowhere, and suddenly the Luna’s chamber belonged to her.Veronica slammed her fist against the vanity, making the glass perfume bottles tremble. Her reflection glared back at her: flawless beauty, dark eyes sharp as knives, lips painted the color of blood. She had been told all her life sh

  • Broken Luna Rise Back   Weighing Shadows

Elsa’s POVLady Selene still held my hand as though she didn’t want to let me go. Her grip was steady, warm, and stronger than I expected. It was strange how she made me feel safe in the middle of a room that reeked of tension.“Sit with me, child,” she said, patting the seat beside her.The maids quickly adjusted the cushions, clearing the space. I lowered myself onto the chair, my back straight, hands folded in my lap. My heart beat fast, though I forced my face to remain calm.Neris plopped down at my other side, cheerful as ever, her curls bouncing. She leaned so close I could feel her excitement radiating. Lyra, however, chose to stand near the window, her posture elegant, her expression unreadable. She crossed her arms, eyes fixed on me like a hawk watching prey.Lady Selene spoke first, her voice low but carrying weight. “You must forgive my daughters. One is too quick to trust, the other too slow. Both are young still, learning the ways of this world. But you…” Her sharp gaze

  • Broken Luna Rise Back   A Different Kind of Strength

Elsa’s POVThe morning light was soft when the knock came at my door. I had barely finished fastening the silver clasp on my gown when the guards appeared to escort me. My heart thudded as we crossed the long corridors of the packhouse and descended the stone steps. Outside, the air was crisp, scented with pine and faint traces of smoke from the chimneys.“She is waiting,” one of the guards said gruffly, and I followed, my palms damp inside my sleeves.Lady Selene’s residence stood separate from the main packhouse, though close enough that her presence could still loom over everything. The building was elegant but quiet, its white stone walls climbing with ivy. It felt older than the other structures, filled with a kind of weight that whispered of history and power.I stepped inside. The scent of herbs and polished wood filled the air. The chamber was wide, warmed by a great hearth. There, near the center, Lady Selene sat on a high-backed chair draped with wolf pelts. Two maids knelt

  • Broken Luna Rise Back   Shadows of Expectation

Elsa’s POVThe gown lay across the bed like a trap. Rich velvet dyed the color of midnight, its sleeves embroidered with threads of silver that shimmered like frost. It was beautiful, far more beautiful than anything I had ever touched, let alone worn. But as I sat on the edge of the bed staring at it, I felt no pride. Only heaviness. The Luna’s chamber was quiet except for the crackling of the fireplace. Everything around me gleamed polished wood, silk curtains, a carved wardrobe filled with gowns I had never dared imagine. And yet all of it felt alien. A cage wrapped in velvet. My mind wasn’t here. Not in this room, not in this house, not in this life that had turned upside down in the space of a single day. My thoughts drifted back, again and again, to Lila.I pictured her small frame hurrying about the servant’s quarters, her bright eyes flashing when she scolded me for forgetting to eat. Was she safe? Was she still at the mercy of Crystal’s venom? I had left her behind without a
