LOGIN“Jordan….Jordan,” I begged as he pulled me by my hair out of the house.
“Jordan I swear these are all fake!” I choked out.
“Someone’s trying to frame me!”
He rationed dragging me once we were at the door and threw my head back.
I nearly hit it against the tile floor but steadied myself.
“Do these look edited to you?!” He held the pictures to my face and waved them frantically.
“You’ve been cheating on me all this time! That’s why you haven’t been able to give me a child, because you’ve been sleeping with someone else.”
“That’s not true….its all a lie. You know I would never do that to you, we’ve been together for so long, and I’d never do that to you.”
But no matter how I managed to beg to talk sense to him he wasn’t listening.
Karla came back down with my luggage and flinged it through the ajar front door.
She climbed back up to get the rest of my belongings.
“It’s Karla!” I pointed at her as she ran upstairs. “She did this, she’s trying to ruin our marriage Jordan!”
I grabbed his trousers but he only kicked me off.
“Get the fuck off me!” He growled.
“I guess my mother was right, you were only here for the money. You married me for my money while you whored around with different men!”
“Jordan…”
“Was I a joke to you? Was this marriage a joke?!” He grabbed me by my arm this time and dragged me out.
Karla came back down with the last item I owned and tossed it along with the pile behind me. I flinched when it hit the ground loudly.
Before she could go back inside I quickly stood to my feet and pulled her hair.
“How could you!” I lamented. “I brought you into my marriage because I trusted you to be beside me as my mate, but you’re trying to get rid of me. How could you!”
“Let go of me!” She tried to free herself from my grasp but I wasn’t letting go of her hair.
Eventually Jordan grabbed my arms and slapped me. Hard.
I froze right there and then.
Jordan had never slapped me before. In fact he had never raised his voice at me, not since Karla came into our lives.
My cheek began to burn a second later, it was so hot and painful that it piled with my heartbeat.
The taste of metal filled my mouth immediately and I realized in that moment that I had bitten my tongue.
The room fell silent. Even Karla had stopped her fake moaning and crying.
My finger trembled when I brought it to the place he had given me the slap.
I stared at the man in front of me, the man I called my husband.
He was breathing hard, eyes wide like he had just realized what he did was uncalled for.
I saw him move. Hands stretched and feet ready to walk to me but Karla stopped him instantly.
He turned to her and opened his mouth but closed it when Karla brought her free hand to her stomach.
This time I didn’t try holding back the salt stained liquid that fell out of my eyes. “How could you?” I shivered.
“Mai…” he started but couldn’t finish.
Karla walked inside the house but reappeared almost immediately.
She handed me a document with the words “divorce” boldly written all over the paper.
I looked between them both.
“Is this what you want?” The question was directed to Jordan but Karla answered instead.
“Yes. It’s what’s best for the child. We can’t have someone like you ruining his peace.”
I didn’t want to give Karl the satisfaction of knowing she pushed me out of the marriage. I didn’t want her to think that she was responsible for my decision.
And I also wanted Jordan to know that I was done with him.
I wanted him to know just how much of a terrible stupid decision he had made.
I took the one from Karla and with unsteady hands I signed the divorce papers.
She held the paper up and grinned from ear to ear while Jordan gave a small ghost of a smile.
I looked at him one more time, letting him soak this up, so he could remember these moments for the rest of his life.
“We’ve also decided to give you the sum of three billion dollars. Something small to start up your life—”
“Keep it.” I cut Karla off. “I don’t need anything from you.”
Karla scoffed.
“Goodbye, Jordan.” I smiled coldly. “I hope one day you realize what you’ve lost. But until then, enjoy your marriage.”
“You think you’ll survive on your own without this money? You think you’re some big shot?” Karla mocked.
“Who are you going to rely on? Your drunk of a mother? Or your nowhere to be found father?”
“Karla…” Jordan tried to calm her down.
Without looking back I gathered all my things she had thrown out and called a cab.
As the cab drove out of the house I watched Jordan lift Karla up and twirl her around.
Would I survive without Jordan’s money or support?
I scoffed.
“Watch me.”
The smell of hospitals never seemed weird to me, it always smelled welcoming. It’s a weird feeling I can’t explain.I paced down the narrow waiting area outside the emergency ward.My arms were wrapped around myself like I could keep my heart from leaping out of my chest. With every second that stretched too long, every door that opened made my breath hitch.I barely knew the man, I didn’t even know his name and with everything that’s happened to me today I shouldn’t even be bothered about him.And yet my hands were still trembling.“Please be alive…” I whispered a prayer.I wasn’t religious in any way but I found myself whispering it anyways, over and over. After a while of me biting my inner cheeks and sipping my sweaty palms over my shirt and jeans, a doctor finally stepped out.He pulled his mask and stared at me.I swallowed hard. “ Is he—?”“He’s stable.” The doctor smiled. My knees wobbled as I let out a sigh of relief. My job here is done.“He’s asking to see you.” The doctor'
“Move!” I pushed past the people who had gathered around to witness the commotion. When I finally got to the center of the crowd, an old man lay sprawled on the ground, his body twisted unnaturally with one hand desperately clutching his chest. His face was grayish blue, and. His breathing came in short panicked bursts. His shirt was soaked in sweat and his lips trembled as he tried desperately but failed to pull in air.His eyes were clouded with nothing but absolute souls crushing fear.My own heart slammed against my ribs and it felt like I was going to have a heart attack of my own.But I didn’t let it intimidate me or scare me away.My foot moved before my scared brain could register it.“How long has he been like this?” I asked the woman next to him as I dropped to my knees beside the old man.The woman scrambled back immediately, sobbing, as her hands shook uselessly around the air.“Answer me!” I yelled at her, shocking my own self.“”N-Not long….long.” She stuttered.I hovere
“You must be out of your goddamn mind!”My mother yelled in my face. Her alcohol stenched breath made its way through my nostrils and I immediately scrunched my face in disgust.“Mother it’s just till I get back on my feet.” I rolled my eyes, already having a headache from her behavior. She had blocked my path, stopping me from getting into the house. A house I paid the full rent for.“You’re going back….burp…..to that marriage you hear me.” She tried to reach for me but I dodged her hand.People had already begun to gather in front of the compound.“Mom, we'll talk about this tomorrow…when you’re not wasted. Just let me get my things back in the house.” I pushed past her but she pulled me back.“You’re so useless!” She screamed. “You’ve done nothing but…but leech off me..burp….now when you’re supposed to spend on me you waste that opportunity!” She pushed my head back with her index finger.“You’re so useless and stupid. You’re the reason your father left us, he couldn’t deal with al

“Jordan, if we don’t go now I’ll miss my appointment.” I frowned at Jordan as he stood by the door.He didn’t move. He just kept staring at me like I just said the most ridiculous thing.“Jordan…” I warned.I knew where this was going. He was going to pick her over me again just like he had always done in the past.He was going to let me burn in a fire and save Karla.“Karla said she’s having light pains today, I need to be by her side.” He protested.I sighed heavily.“But I’m having pains too, Jordan. I need you to–”“But it’s not related to you being pregnant.” Jordan stated coldly.“What?” I stepped back utterly confused and shocked.“You don’t know what Karla is passing through, Mai. Have you ever been pregnant?” He crossed his arms.“Jordan, that’s not a nice thing to say….”He nodded slowly. “I’ll take that as a no.” He scoffed. “I’ve been trying to be as nice as possible to you Mai but you’re going too far. I’m not leaving Karla, especially now that she needs me.”“But I need
