Chapter Nineteen

HAILEY

"What are you doing here all alone?" I used my hand to block the sun rays from getting into my eyes as I looked up at him but Xavier, being the gentleman that he was, used his body to shield me from the sun.

"Let's say I just come here to think." He answered. He was still as calm as I remembered.

"I didn't get the chance to thank you properly the last time for standing up for me." I remembered that I owed him an appreciation for taking my side in front of his family.

"That was nothing. I didn't even do what was expected of me" He paused for a second or two and then continued, "I'm the one who owes you an apology for the silly behavior of my mother and brothers. That was very unkind of them."

"You've done that before. Besides, you shouldn't apologize for an offense you didn't commit. You're a good person." I said the last word with a big smile on my face.

"Oh, you don't know" He muttered to himself that I had problems figuring out the exact words.

"Huh?" I asked for clarificatio
