ORVYN’S POV: Guilt consumes me. It always has since I became king and took on its heavy crown. I’ve made hard choices and sacrificed things I treasure. My wolf growls low, pushing me to accept Victoria’s demand. It still wants her, but not like before where there’s a wild hunger in it. “I told you, I’ll make love with you again once you’re officially my concubine,” I say, voice firm. As I turn to leave, she rushes in front of me to block the door. She then presses her lips against mine with desperation once again, while her hands thirstily roam over my torso. “Stop this, Victoria! This won’t solve anything!” I snarl, holding her arms. Instead of listening, she drops to her knees and grabs at my pants to try unzipping it. I step back quickly, pushing her away as gently as I can. “Enough!” “What?!” she screams. “Does Thalissia s.uck you better than I can?!” I take a strained breath, trying to maintain my composure. “Let’s talk once you calm down.” I stride past her, but he
The last time Orvyn and I made love was before the King Selection Ball. If I count the days, I can claim I’m already four weeks pregnant. But what if the royal court asks for proof? What will I show them? I stop pacing the room when Queen Aurora storms in without an announcement, let alone a knock. Her face and movements are bright with excitement. But when she sees my expression, that excitement fades instantly. She looks at the door, makes sure it’s closed, then asks in an almost inaudible voice, “So, it’s not true then?”I nod, tears start falling down my cheeks. “But at least… we’re all saved from being imprisoned. Well,... except dad.”Her fingers suddenly clutch my jaw so hard, her nails slightly digging my skin, and her eyes burn with rage. “You put us in that situation. So don’t you dare feel proud for saving us with a lie!”“Let’s not fight, Your Highness. If anything, we need each other now more than ever. You’ve got to help me on this one,” I beg.She lets go of me with
The loud gongs and horns shake the whole palace. The noise wakes the other officials, but I have been awake all night. I couldn’t sleep, coz my mind kept racing. When and where can I destroy my spare phone without the guards finding its pieces? But more than that, Beta Clare’s words still haunt me. What if Orvyn really is in love with Thalissia now? I try to shake it off, but my confidence is slowly slipping from me. That’s why this doubt keeps clinging to me and refusing to let go. Suddenly,... The door creaks open. Royal guards enter without asking for permission or offering breakfast. They just motion for us to follow. In the room beside ours, the male officials of our pack come out too. Dad gives me a worried smile, but I can’t bring myself to smile back. We're led to the royal court. Queen Elowyn sits at the front with officials from other packs. Some look shocked, some are curious, and a few—especially the silver-haired, silver-eyed ones—wear smug faces. “King Orvyn
VICTORIA’S POV: I pace my bedroom anxiously. The air-conditioner is on, but sweat still runs down my forehead. Why haven’t the Gammas called back? Did they kill Thalissia already? Or did she escape again?I grab my spare phone and try one more time, pressing Yssa’s number. One ring... two... Then finally, she answers.I open my mouth, ready to scold her for ignoring my previous calls, but my instinct stops me. Yssa doesn’t say anything either, as if waiting for me to speak first, which is strange. Until, a moment of tense silence later, a voice, I don’t recognize, echoes.-[“This is the Chief Police from Amantheia Paradise Island. May I know who I am speaking with?”]-My blood runs cold, provoking me to hang up at once and throw the phone into my cabinet.Chief Police?! They’re caught! Did they tell them about my involvement? Have they killed Thalissia, or was she lucky again?I force myself to breathe deeply, trying to calm the panic. Suddenly,...I jolt, fear wriggling back thr
Police cars are parked just outside the villa. The two officers, standing near the steps, are gaping at me like they’re seeing a zombie limping toward them. One officer lifts her portable radio to her mouth. “She’s here, wounded and injured.”The other rushes over to me. “I believe you’re Ms. Thalissia? Where have you been? Who hurt you? Mr. Orvyn of Karyndor is so worried about you.”I smirk inwardly. Well played, Orvyn. He really reported me missing, hoping this will make him look innocent. The police keep interrogating me, but none of them offer medical help.I say nothing.I can’t trust anyone now. Just like with that waitress—I trusted too fast, and I paid for it.I ascend the staircase for one of the spare rooms. When I go straight to the bathroom, they finally stop following me, their footsteps retreating. I let the water from the shower faucet cascade down to me. My wounds burn. Even so, I remain focused on how to execute my scheme in this silent war against Orvyn… and the l
A harrowing scream bursts from my stinging throat as sharp canines savagely pierce through my ankle. Then, the wolf yanks my ankle backward with force, causing me to lose my balance and collapse hard onto the forest’s stony floor. My elbows scrape the rough ground and my face hits the dirt."Leave me alone!" I cry out."But you are already and always alone," one of the wolves sneers. The words sting almost as much as the bites. With the last bit of strength I have, I kick my wounded leg, trying to break free from the wolf's mouth. But the wolf doesn’t let go.Another wolf pierces its canines into my other free ankle, making me shriek as new pain explodes through me.The two wolves begin to drag me until the seaside view is completely gone and only shadows remain. My fingers dig into the ground, trying to hold on to anything. Dirt fills my nails, while pebbles scrape my arms. The third wolf, the only woman among them, walks behind. Sometimes it snaps at the others, barking orders. Ot
