“Where is he?” I inquired, looking around for any strange face that I might find.

“Are you really that impatient?” Michael teased me, “He was here a couple of minutes ago but I told Jacob to show him around the place, Oh look, here he comes,” Michael said pointing at the door, I followed his hands leading there.

The man had a confident gait and brightly colored hair that I assumed was once red but was now more on the pink side, with his undergrowth being more visible. His eyes, which were a striking blue with an enigmatic glint, his jawline, and his cheekbones were perfectly chiseled to fit his face.

“Good morning, Mrs. Thatcher,” The man greeted me with a baritone voice offering his hand for me to shake, I stared him down at the disrespect, who does he think he is to touch me?

“Good morning,” I answered sternly, I had mixed feelings about him, maybe because he dressed up in an unconventional way which pissed me off, for someone who managed, emphasis on manage because it is very rare to be offered a job by us, just look at him.

I am sure he would be a distraction to the ladies.

“Seth this is my wife, you will be working for her from now henceforth, if she isn’t satisfied with you then I might have to fire you, so I trust you will do a good job,” Michael introduced us offering a firm warning for him to abide by. “Baby, do you have anything else to say,”

I looked at him, carefully counting all of the things I already had issues with, Seth already seemed to dislike me as he glared at me, possibly because I had kept his hand hanging earlier but that isn’t my fault.

“His dressing,” I called out, finally mentioning something that stood out more out of the rest I had issues with. “I am sure you are aware that you aren’t allowed to be dressed in this,” I eyed his simple tank top and jeans

“Honey, he is just resuming, I am sure this can be settled with time,” Michael said and I agreed with him, partly…

“I will be heading out very soon, so be prepared,” I said, “My love, the kids will be leaving… your ties is crooked, I will help you fix that,” I arranged Michael’s tie and when I was done, I placed a kiss on my lips. “What was that for?”

“Thank you,” he said and then I left him.

Today I wasn’t just going to sit at home as I always do, I had a gathering for women of this large estate that needed my presence.

I called Brianna, letting her know that I would be on my way.

“You said you have got something else to say,” Brianna said over the phone as I expressed my excitement towards her. “Okay since you won’t say then maybe I should guess, Michael got you a new designer bag, if he did, what brand? Also, if you don’t want it maybe you can hand it over to me,”

“No it is not a bag, it is something bigger than that” I told her dropping a bit of hint along with it, “You know I have wanted this for a long time now,”

“Okay, I think I got it. It is a car… no, Michael already bought you that for your last birthday but you can’t even drive… Yes! He finally got you your personally chauffeur,”

“Yes!!!” I squealed, this might not sound that much of a big deal, but if does mean a whole lot to me.

“Well at least you are enjoying a whole lot surprises, while I…”

Here come the pity tears. Every single time she always makes me feel guilty for sharing my happiness and constantly dumps trauma on me about how Miles left her for a much prettier lady, and then her divorce and a whole lot of other stuff, my ear suffers it all of the time.

“Oh well, I am so happy for you, my friend,” She ended, I can even tell if I listened to a word she said.

“Brianna, don’t be like that, I am sure you will find someone better,” I said trying to be more supportive but I guess I simply just dug a grave for myself because I didn’t hear the end of it as Brianna continued to tell me a whole lot of other things Miles did to her recently.

I listened to it all, adding a few inputs here and there, even though I had already been told this very story all too many times.

I saw Seth waiting at the car as I told one of the maids to let him know that I was coming. I still had my phone with me, listening to each word Brianna had for me.

“Open the door,” I ordered him and Seth did exactly as told, as I entered the back seat of the Car, I noticed something, “Brianna hold on,” I said to her before focusing my attention more towards Seth, “You didn’t get changed?”

“I don’t have a suit yet, ma’am,” Seth answered.

“Well get one soon, you aren’t driving the wife of a local mafia boss for you to be dressed like this, make sure to dress appropriately tomorrow, I don’t want to address this again,” I said to him, “You can close the door,”

After the slam from the door, Brianna thought to ask as soon as I settled inside the car.

“Who was that you were just talking to?” She asked.

“Just my driver,” I answered proudly as Seth entered and switched on the engine of the Car.

“Where to, Madam?” He inquired.

“You can see that I am on a phone, proper manners demand that you hold on till I am done,” I spoke rudely and my tone wasn’t pleasing at all.

Brianna had heard us over the phone and decided to involve herself, “Isn’t it too early to start treating him like you did with Dan,”

“Well can you blame me, he is suddenly getting on my nerves, you will be coming for the gathering today, right?” I asked finally using my hand to direct Seth on what to do so we can get moving.

“I already said that I was but erm… do you think maybe you can pick me up over at my place?” Brianna pleaded over the phone.

“Seth hold on,” I told him and the car came to a halt, “I would be heading at your place now,” I said to Brianna confirming that I will indeed be picking her up. “Can you drive back again, there is someone I need to pick up,”

“Alright Ma’am,” Seth complied as he turned and drove back to Brianna’s place which was a few blocks from mine, the house Brianna lived in once belonged to her ex-husband but following the divorce, she was able to secure the house with some of his wealth, instead of her to sell the house off and move to where it was most convenient, she chose to live her not wanting her wealthy image to be tarnished.

It didn’t take a year for her to squander all of those money and racking up so much debts for herself, she could no longer even pay her workers which was twice the amount of people working for me by the way, and of course I had to step as the friend that I am.

Don’t hate me for being like this, Brianna can be a whole lot of mess but I still love but most times she does too much and I try as a friend to let her know this but she just doesn’t seem to get it.

“There she is, you can stop here,” I said as I saw Brianna waving from afar.

“Thank you so much, Scarlett, I wonder what I would do without you,” Brianna said as she entered the Car.

Absolutely nothing… Brianna would do absolutely nothing without me.

“I might not stay for long at that meeting, I have to pick my baby up from school,” Brianna checked the time on her phone as she settled.

“How is little Christian?” I was genuinely asking about the well-being of my godson and there she goes again using the opportunity to tell me about how he was almost sent out of school and how she had to beg for a little time to offer the payment. “Maybe you should get a job or start a business,” I suggested and as always, she turned a deaf ear.

“I was thinking of approaching Michael to clear Christian school fees for me,” Briana said instead and I gave up.

“You don’t have to worry about the fees, I will pay but you must promise that with the little money you have you start up a business or sell off the apartment, Michael and I will be willing to buy it off from your hand—"

“Can we not talk about this for now? Someone might hear,” Brianna cut me not wanting that I go further with my proposal so I gave up.

The minute I stepped foot into that place Michael called home for me and my children, it was the moment I lost all contact with Seth and the world. I never go anywhere without security following me around, monitoring my every movement and the things that I do, and making sure that they work according to my given schedule.Michael has gone insane.“Michael I am tired of all these.” I threw off my shoes and flung them out the window, and wherever they landed, I absolutely had no care for them. “I am tired!”“Then leave!” Michael screamed at my face as he slammed our room door, locking it shut. “I know you want his touch; you are doing all of these because you miss him, don’t you?”“For six months I haven’t seen him; I have adhered to every one of your demands and kept away from him; all I want is for you to sign the divorce papers and free me,” I say, moving away from him."Clearly, you don’t know that I won’t know such things, so act right and come down right now!” Michael yelled, and

“Carmela, hurry up; you are going to be late for school,” I screamed from the kitchen where I was packing up her lunch. When I didn’t hear anything from her, I went to knock on her door. The door pushed open as I held it. “Carmela.”“Mum, come take a look,” Carmela pointed at the two vehicles with security detail waiting in front of Seth’s apartment.“Ignore them,” I said to her before closing off the curtain. “Seth said he will drop you off at school before we head to the hospital to pick up your brother. Leo is finally returning home.”“Yay,” Carmela feigned excitement. “I am sure he is going to gain all of your attention now.” My forehead creased as I looked directly at her. I saw a small smile on her face. “I am kidding, mom. It is so easy to get to you. Make sure you give him all of the love for me.”“I think you should skip school today and come see him.”“And ruin my perfect record? No, I told you I would do better in school than Leo ever was,” Carmela said as she picked up her

“Why didn’t you tell me that Leo was alive? What was the need for keeping it away from me and from us?” Michael asked. Carmela had stared with the bitterness she had felt looking at her father this morning.“I did it so Brianna would confess,” I answered.“For fuck sake, Scarlett, if she had gotten arrested, she would have confessed either way; she killed our son, I mean almost,” Michael said as he moved back and forth.“And that is almost the reason he is alive today, Michael. I know Brianna was in her head yesterday, but she is not a bad person and still is my friend,” I acknowledged. “Everything she has done was to provide for her family; there is nothing wrong with that.”“By blackmailing you? Honey, have you gone mad? How can you call someone who has done all these things a friend? I pray she rots in jail for the sins she has caused you.” Michael pulled me and hugged me. I sniffed his shirt, and there was an unfamiliar scent—feminine, I would say.I already knew he had sex when h

A few talks with the officer were all I needed to get a name that I already knew. I couldn’t believe that the person I trusted so much about would have done this to me. I don’t deserve this. I may be a bad person, but I don’t deserve this at all.We drove over to my son’s murderer’s house as I begged for the police to let me speak to her personally; she is my friend after all.“She won’t harm me; Brianna already told me she would be waiting to speak to me,” I said, trying to convince the officer to wait.I knocked on the door of Brianna’s home, and it opened slightly, given that she hadn’t locked the door as she said she wouldn’t.“You came,” Brianna sat in the darkness of her home. I saw different weapons like a gun, a knife, and a couple of pills on the table. She said, “Don’t worry, they aren’t for you.”“I know,” I said. “You won’t harm me, Brianna.”“I hate you.” She said so simply as she whimpered silently, “You are so lucky; you have a good life, family, money , everything. I a

A heavy downpour of rain washed over Leo’s grave, and while everyone sought shelter from it, I stood there wondering how lonely it would be over there—no one to talk to, no food to eat—at least you wouldn’t have to study any more.My lips thinned as I exhaled deeply. There is no mother to tell you what you can and cannnot, how to live your life, or who you should be with.I kneeled down as I allowed the dirt to stain all over me, losing my mind at the thought that Leo was actually gone, like I would never get to see him again."Leo, I am sorry.” I cried out as all my pain weakened me. A snort came out of my nose as I continued to cry. It will take the intervention of everyone to leave my son’s at this point.I didn’t give him what he wanted and always found a way to make his life about Michael. I used him as a pawn to achieve Michael’s success, and I only started to feel sorry for it when he outgrew me.I never got to amend my relationship with my son; I never got to do that, and now

Seth was shocked as to where I had gotten such courage from. I mean, I was drunk in his scent and clearly wasn’t thinking properly, but his saying I should go ahead was where I understood he wanted it too."Seth, look at where we are. Do you think God will want to see that from two fornicators?” I asked, and Seth burst out laughing.“Fornicators? So that is who we are now. I have never felt sin be this good before. You think maybe he will forgive us so easily?” Seth asked as he looked around the chapel.“No, God doesn’t work that way, dear; you have to be remorseful and actually pay the price for the sin before he forgives, I think, but though he is merciful, his forgiveness doesn’t come cheap,” I said, smiling. “I also don’t think we should be this close.” I tried to push him further away while pulling him back at the same time.“Since we are fornicators?" Seth laughed, and the room fell into silence as he gazed at me ever so lovingly. “I know this is wrong, but I miss you,” he said
